I think he "hurt" people in that he said some pretty gutsy stuff. Depending on your definition of "violent", cracking a whip and spilling over tables can be considered violent.

He spoke truth in love....He was trying to awaken them from their self-righteousness. Your average sinner loved to listen to Christ and they followed Him, but the Pharisees and the keepers of the law hated him and eventually had Him murdered.
