I guess I would guess yes. I guess I've spent a bunch of time on the internet learning but I don't know if it's done a whole lot for me. Starting at the fundamentals might be the best way to go, but I might just need to talk to a pastor or someone in real life.

Yes, He did and here's why:

There is only one way for an individual to be saved from their sins and reconciled to God, and that is through a personal relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ. The Bible says there is only one path that leads to eternal life, and that is through the shed blood of Jesus. It also declares that there is only one name given to us in all of creation through whom we can be saved: the name of Jesus Christ. This completely excludes everyone and everything else as a means for forgiveness and salvation.

Now onto the "specific" why part:

Because God’s holiness demands perfection, His justice demands that sin be punished, and His righteousness requires that justice and judgment be rendered, His great love for us sent Jesus to this earth to meet and satisfy all of those righteous requirements on our behalf, through His own sinless life and sacrificial death. This is what makes it possible for sinful man to be saved.

Therefore, whoever places their faith and trust in Jesus, believing He paid the debt of their sin in full, will receive God’s forgiveness and eternal life. Those who reject Jesus’ atoning sacrifice will be left with no other means of obtaining forgiveness and salvation, and as a result, will reap the full measure of God’s righteous judgment for their sin, which is suffering eternal death apart from God, forever. That is why the Bible says, "I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation." (2 Corinthians 6:2b.

Yes, but this issue often comes across as a kind of religious formula. The idea behind sacrifice is meant to demonstrate that there are consequences for our bad behavior. When we behave badly, it not only affects us, also it affects others around us. Because we tend to be selfish and narrow minded it's easy to become blinded to how our bad behavior affects others. The sacrifice of animals (old testament) was meant to bring to remembrance this concept; an animal must suffer and die for my behavior. The people were meant to feel some genuine sense of remorse and regret, and then this would transfer over to how they behave regarding other humans.

However as is usually the case, we humans became desensitized to the suffering of the animals. Over time the practice became little more than a religious ritual with economic undertones. People made the sacrifices because that's just what their religion told them to do. It became just another household chore.

Then Jesus came along. The principle was the same, but instead of an animal, the sacrifice would be God's own offspring. This is part of what Jesus meant when he talked about fulfilling the law. Jesus' sacrifice was meant to show just how much God really does care about the way we think and why we think the way we do. God's own son, a part of God himself, willingly allowed himself to be tortured and killed by us as the ultimate demonstration of how our bad behavior leads to bad results and how, even then, God is willing to forgive us if we turn away from those bad behaviors.

Before Jesus came to earth every human soul went to hell. Heaven existed but there wasn't a place there for human souls. Sin sent us to hell. Jesus came and died for our sins and He created a place in heaven for us but you must be baptised. Baptism is the most important thing we will ever do in our lives.
