Well yes, that's how I interpret the entire Book of Genesis. It's allegorical, not historical.

Allegorical of what?

I think it is all allegorical. A series of mythological stories that are glued together into a narrative that spells out a spiritual message.

Thought there wasn't supposed to be suffering in Eden? Starvation type hunger is one of the worst kinds of continuous suffering a human can feel for long periods of time.

Time it takes a person to starve to death if they eat absolutely nothing: about 3 weeks.

Time it can take if very limited amounts of food are eaten: more than 2 months, depending on what an how much they eat.
