CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The issue we are dealing with is fear. The physical symptom is control. When we can't control something in our lives we get angry. We get angry because of unmet expectations. (Gee, you suppose this morning's study may be speaking to me?) This morning's study refers to anger being like lights on a dashboard. They tell us something is wrong under the hood of the car. In order to fix the problem we have to find out it's source. Whenever we have expectations of another person or even ourselves that do not materialize, our tendency is to get angry. The source of the anger is fear that the unmet expectation will negatively impact us. My fear this morning is that my unmet expectation of not wanting to smoke will impact my life because I will fail and end up smoking again. I am disappointed in myself. Even though I realize this morning that the devil has come to dance with me. So, I stand in the rain. But, will I be able to stand my ground against myself and against the devil? Jesus often spoke of living as though we were dead. Dead to ourselves. In order to live as though we're dead we have to live as though we're alive in Christ. It's a choice we must make each day. Once we become dead to that which stirs up emotion in us, God is free to change that situation. Until we are able to reckon ourselves dead to the effects of the issue that causes us to struggle, God will allow us to remain in the situation. This morning I must allow myself to die to the desire to smoke. I must realize that my body is not my own. It belongs to God. He doesn't want me to smoke and I have to be willing to give myself to him to do what he sees fit with it. By allowing the devil to control these urges, I am not allowing God to take control. Therefore I'm still fighting for something that isn't mine and fighting to keep alive something that should be dead.
Father, this morning I pray for myself and for others of us who still have areas in our lives where we have not died for you. I surrender myself to you this morning and I surrender my desires to you. I ask that you take them for your own and do as you will with them. I ask that you please do not let the devil have this dance.

I think I'm going to go battle the shopping crowd today and get a new crochet hook and start crocheting again. Maybe that will help with some of the cravings.

Is it your leg hon?
Took me a bit longer in town than I had planned on. I nearly got creamed by some elderly woman. She was at the corner of a main road and I don't think she even saw my vehicle cuz she pulled right out in front of me just as I approached the intersection. I had to go into the other lane to avoid her. She went to the same store I went to so I got her license plate number and stopped off at the police station to let them know. I told the cop I was afraid she was going to get herself killed. Apparently she shouldn't be driving anymore. As much as I hate to say it...I think they need to do something about the laws on the elderly being able to renew their licenses so easily. A lot of these folks around here really shouldn't be driving anymore. It's awful! Scared me half to death! It's a good thing no one was in the other lane or I would have lost my car. ~LOL~

Part of what has me a bit on edge today is the fact that when I first moved into this neighborhood it was nice and quiet. Now all the neighbors have dogs and they leave them outside and they bark all bloody day and night. It's very frustrating and annoying.
