• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Depression can be caused by chemical imbalances in the brain. Sometimes it takes prescription medication to help control it. Prayer doesn't hurt either.
I'm struggling with depression right now myself. Some of it is medical and some of it is personal problems. As a Christian I think it would be wrong for me to deny that I have a problem with it and I shouldn't be too proud to ask for help. :help:

Thank you craftygal. It was nice to hear this from someone else... ;)

In my personal opinion, I know that there were people in the bible that dealt with it. Elijah, Job, David, Jeremiah, they all fell under some sort of deppression. Even JESUS himself (Matthew 26:38 ) admitted that his soul was overwhelmed with sorrow because he knew that his death would be coming soon.

"And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch." -- Matthew 26:38 KJV

I don't know if any of you have been taught about this but I learned it and I just loved how God created us. Check this out.

Whenever someone in the bible mentions their soul they are speaking about their emotional state and feelings at that moment. The most intimate parts of yourself. So Jesus was troubled at that time in his own emotions. HOWEVER (and please take a CLOSE look at this), what did He do after saying that his soul was "exceeding sorrowful"? HE WENT AND PRAYED!

Great example for us to follow. Not only did Jesus seek God in His time of sorrow, but so did Elijah, Job, David, and Jeremiah. One of them secluding himself from everyone and asking God to take his life, one of them cursing the day he was born, one of them crying uncontrollably, and the other one mourning for the many things that were occuring in His life. NEITHER OF THEM STOPPED TRUSTING IN GOD AND NEITHER OF THEM STRAYED AWAY FROM HIM BECAUSE OF THEIR SITUATION -- On the contrary, they held on even MORE.

I would love to bring you biblical references for all of these people and I will. However, I just wanted to share that. :sorry:

Lately, it's been hard to put on a happy face... I try to do my best at it but it's just so hard. That is the reason why I wanted to discuss this. Some people, like I said, have this misconception that we cannot be depressed.

Well, those are my two cents...

It is very possible for Christians to go through depression and it is a physical disorder in many if not all cases to some degree. Usually, there is a lack of seretonin in the brain that can cause it...Christians can and are depressed, any one can be depressed....but as Christians, we have God to pick us up and kiss and hug us!

Unfortunately, my Christian friends don't realise it at times. They think it's just an act to gain sympathy. So tired of putting a smile when all I want is to just cry. Really tired.

These people are not your friends. Start reaching out to different people and find some who will really care about you and be better educated about depression.

Can sympathise, there are many i know in and around my church and freindship circle that hold the view of christians not being depressed, i guess they are just ignorant in the respect they know very little about depression, which is no excuse.
i believe christians can be depressed, my friend has brought a book from a local christian book shop in the hope to understand more about how god and depression can work together to produce miraculous healing as well as other things, and she is now behind me 100%

I agree 100% that a Christian can have depression. Though we are saved and have accepted Christ, it does not make us completely immune to certain matters of the world.
I can speak of this because I am a Christian and I am Bipolar. The thing is though, God has shown me that through my weakness I am made strong and he has given me the courage to accept it and use it to His glory. I have started an outreach ministry traveling around and talking to groups about this, through my witness, my story...
Please come by and visit me at ClosingInMinistry.com
God never said we would not have to suffer, but He does promise us that we won't suffer alone...
for His glory!!!

Depression is NOT a sin. It's not against Christian. At all. Hear?

there are so much characters in the Bible who underwent depression such as King David, Elijah, JOb and name a few others.

I ama strong belkiever that God uses your depression to be more compassionate and sensitive to others.

I can personally relate because I also struggle with mild depression and I know your symptoms. I know how it it. I feel you~!

I think we just have to fight it. Fight the good fight and see how God moves through them. Have you try meds or counseling or CBT?
Keep moving!
