• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

 Boy do I know all about getting told to "pull myself together." I hate it too. All it succeeds in doing is making me shut up just when I most need someone to talk to.

I agree, you feel like you shouldn't talk to them cos they obviously don't understand.

I do understand that sometimes when depressed you can spend a lot of time navel gazing and that to continually talk about things can end up with a vicious cycle however, people need to realise that depression is different to feeling a bit down and i think that's an issue with some people.

Lovelies i hope you're all ok - been a bit quiet here again and i worry about you

 Don't worry about me. As long as I can swim and sing, I'll survive. Though I am quite angry with my brother at the moment. He wasn't at my choir concert 2 weeks ago, nor will he be at my first voice recital ever (which will be June 4! ) nor will he be at my next swim meet, which is on Father's day (which means he won't be there for Father's day either) That... child! How far in advance do I have to tell him to get him to be there once in a while? He's always got plans. I could break my lifetime best in the 200 freestyle by 10-15 seconds and get a B time judging by what I did in practice today, and he's going to Hawaii! The Light take him and his girlfriend/may-as-well-be-wife both.

Wow first voice recital
I'm sorry that your brother is letting you down, it's always hard when we want people to be there for us and they're not. I'm sure there will be plenty of people rooting for you though - but you want your bro hey?

Have you explained to him how you feel?

Hugs

*Sighs* He's already made the plane reservations and all that. Though perhaps I will talk to him anyway and make sure he'll be there for my meet in July.

Hey everyone, I'm ok thanks. Tsuriyel, that is brilliant that you are coming off your tablets, well done u huni!! :) Good luck with all that, and for trying for children, I really hope everything goes well for you! xxx

I'm ok, I finished my last uni exam on thursday...so now I've finished education, feels good but also really scary! This will be the first time iv been away from education since i was 5 (which is like 16 years...lol).

So kinda scared to be out in the big world, and getting a full time job, and picking the right one...just gota hope and pray God guides me. I just really feel like I can't be bothered with the world right now, and getting a job coz im depressed if that makes sense, but i know i have to so, heh. I'm just not sharing the enthusiasm all my other college friends have at the moment. But apart from that I seem to be ok.

Would one or 2 people mind maybe praying that god will help and guide me in what to be doing now? If not, then no worries, coz i understand prayer can be really hard when you've got depression.

I hope everyone else is ok. Judy xxx:hug:

I'll pray for you. Its not easy to look for work when you're feeling this way. I'll pray that you receive the guidance you need and find an opportunity that inspires and energises you. New opportunities can be scary, but also exciting and rewarding.

Hi I'm Julianne,

I've been suffering depression for about 4 years now..I have my off days and I feel ready down..But atm I feel great.

I'm taking Talohexal, so I think they are doing the trick.

I also have OCD and some mild schizophrenia as well.

Nice to meet you all.

Yes, keeping yourself occupied with other things, keeping busy, especially with something you enjoy is very helpful. It takes your mind off your worries and woes and energizes you. Sunlight helps quite a bit too oddly enough. I'm not sure if it applies to you or not but if you're not getting much sunshine you might consider going for walks during the day. Our minds apparently need sunlight or we get all depressed ... go figure. :p I know it sure perks me up quite a bit. They've done studies on it and all but I know from first-hand experience, it works.

Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed in March. I am on Wellbutrin. The medication enabled me to function, and I am very thankful for it.

I am scheduled to see a therapist next week.

Half the battle is recognizing my "disease" (I'm getting more comfortable calling it that). When I feel it, I call those overwhelming negative thoughts, hopelessness, and bitterness the snake.

Knowing what it is helps me realize, this is something that I don't need to blame myself for. It's something that I have to manage. I just tell God, "the snake is back" and let him fight the battle while I cope. I cope by getting around people, getting out the house, or doing what I love. Sometimes, the snake loosens its grip and slithers away and sometimes it squeezes me, but it doesn't kill me.

It's hard to swallow at times, that this is suffering! God isn't here to make us happy all hours of the day. He's here as a ray of hope in this dark world. Bad things will happen to us, and good things will happen, too.

So, if you are suffering, know that God is somehow working this for your good (I know it may sound very cruel and crazy, but in lucid times I understand it). Please tell someone you trust and get professional help! Don't worry about the stereotypes of being on antidepressents, there are many true Christians that are subjected to them, there is nothing to be ashmed of!
