  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Just a request for prayer. I was expecting to retire this year, since I think I'm getting my second pass-over for promotion. However, I just got tagged for a deployment. I'm not expecting to go unless I'm actually promoted, which would be a huge surprise (0-5% chance.)

Ordinarily, this would be just fine for me - I have only deployed once and I regret that. However, my fiancee is freaking out because it's possibly a combat deployment, and I'm just a computer geek. She's also offended that they would tell me I'm not good enough to promote, but are happy to send me to a war zone for six months. I understand the difference, but she doesn't, and the idea of me leaving for six month while we're newlyweds really torques her off.

Just pray that what God wants will happen and that we both can handle it.

I am sorry that you received no response to this.

If your a como guy your not gonna get put out on the road with a weapon expected to go find terrorists and it is very unlikely that you'll ever see combat. Unless you have a mission to travel to a diffrent base you'll probly never leave your base unless your simply on a convoy and you'll just be suited up and won't leave your vehicle unless you get hit (probly not gonna happen), or untill you arrive at your destination.

I would say your a soldier (airman) and defending your nation and comrades to mortal ends is a part of your job and your loving wife should know that. You should definitly be ready for combat.
The most combat you will likely see is a round coming across the wall of your FOB. The rounds they frequently use in Aghanistan normally only have about a 10 feet kill radius so the chance of one landing on your head and killing you are about the same as being hit by lightning. And the Bosnians and Cheks who man alot of the guard posts will kill anything that move anyway :)
You'll be fine.
