Some people still use yards even though offically we are metric. However most people will give their height in feet and inches.
My old pastor was old fashioned enough to prefer feet and inches, having grown up in pre-metric times.

If for some reason he had to give the length of a cricket pitch it would have been "twenty two yards or whatever that is in French"...

This thread did not exactly start with a serious grip on reality anyway.
I mean, the topic was about the Danish taking the (well can't use that saying because of filters) out of Donald.

I was thinking distance. Like in metres. But you mean backyards? There's plenty in the suburbs.
I meant in front. There’s not much grass from what I recall.

I've been to London twice! I'm forever surprised by the lack of yards!
Ease out of town and it changes quickly. One of my mate's lives in Bexley Heath, prettiest yard you've ever seen.

I wonder how long the era of trolling and counter trolling as statesmanship will last .

In the end, Trump's outrageous statement was only an opening gambit in a negotiation.
Which is very much Trump's style, which the media never seems to grasp.

This is the appropriate counter to Trumpism. Refuse to cower and make a sport of his bufoonery.
No one is expected to "cower". For crying out loud, has no one read "The Art of the Deal"?

Grass, especially in the front yard, is overrated. I am slowly removing mine in favor of other plants and hardscaping.

Yeah, I agree. I don’t know why it isn’t more common?

Since we're already off-topic...do the English use acres as a unit of measurement for property?

Also, have you ever ordered a firkin of ale?
1) Yes, we still use acres for land area.

Besides familiarity, I suspect another reason is that 27 acres of land sounds more than a 10 hectares (it’s the same) while the cost per acre will be lower than per hectare. Likewise with sq ft and sq m.

In practice, both measurements are usually given.

2) No

So, still boring?
Is there anything more boring than cricket? (I'm English too: lived in Hampshire decades ago - lovely county).
I'm told that a good book helps!
I used to take a Cluedo Board and play with the kids. Sounds of willow on leather interspersed with shouts of 'Professor Plum in the library with the candlestick' etc.
This thread did not exactly start with a serious grip on reality anyway.
Yes and it has mainly been such a fun thread which, after reading some of the more divisive ones, has been wonderful light relief.
