Demonic Possession

Has their been any research into demon possession from a scientific standpoint? I'm curious to see some light shed on this phenomenom from a scientific/psychological standpoint. Does anyone know of any research on the web or even something I can get at the library?

Also, has anyone here observed someone who was possessed and where the demons were driven out?

Most scientific research presents a nonspiritual interpretation of demonic possession. I have encountered someone who was obviously demon possessed, and he was in a psychiatric institution. His diagnosis was purely secular. Only one time in my life have I ever cast out a demon from someone in which their were physical manifestations of its presence. I don't believe that the person was actually "Possessed." But close to it.

In terms of spiritual warfare, my focus is always on Jesus.

I might add that from my research, probably the closest thing that comes to a scientific "diagnosis" of demon possession would be multiple-personality disorder. But then alot of the data I've seen doesn't necessarily align with the biblical descriptions of demon possession.

All in all, though, the focus is always on what Jesus is doing, not on what the devil is doing. I believe that deliverance is a particular ministry and not really something to dabble in if you are not called to it.

Yeah had a personal experience with a possessed person when I was 18, although no casting demons out....also seen many oppressed people as well. (probably more common) Either way not a pretty site.

Although have heard some fascinating stories from my bestfriends family (long line of pastors etc.)

As for where they go...as I was always told your supposed to cast them to the uninhabitable places of the earth. Which makes sense.

Don’t know of any scientific studies, but then again I haven’t had the need to check.

I have had many occasions to cast out devil spirits, and other times when God would show me someone with spirits, but no revelation to cast them out.
Witnessing the truth of God’s Word seems to stir up the nest so to speak, and not necessarily from the one I am witnessing to; usually someone from the sidelines.

Here is a puzzling question. Can a Christian get possessed?

Why I ask this? I used to believe that a Christian can not get possessed because the Holy Spirit is in the believer. THen I encounter Christian people giving testimonies sounding alot like demonic possession. Strange! It can be arguable that only a strong and mature Christian can not get possessed, but a young Christian can.

What do any of you guys see about this? I still have not conclude to what I hold solid on this matter.

I believe that can be true. Things that causes us not to be holy can be an influence or oppression from demonic forces.

However, you must becareful in analyzing that issue. It can just be that if a person is like that then that person can just be living in that sinful lifestyle.

Though, that does make me wonder if the hippies in the 60s were somewhat influence by demonic forces as well as being humanly depraved. Does someone want to share on this?

Hippies make me think of Charles MAnson and his gang...now that seems to me to be a perfect example of demons at work!

That does make sense there. Much of their activity starts from disobedience. Then it does lead towards sinful acts and even rejecting Christ, worshipping another god. (I believe that is the beginning of new ageism.) Demons at work? I am not fully sure. But that does make the whole Mormonism sounding like it has an origin to demonic forces as well as Islam.

If you want to learn more about demons and deliverance, read Derek Prince's They Shall Expel Demons. My friend advise me to read it. He said that it was biblical sound and very good. I just begin reading. So far, it is the best book that I read on demons.

Some Christians are Christians in title only or have a twisted version of what Christianity really is. Some believe and call themselves Christians but live like the devil. Some believe since they acknowledge Jesus Christ that's all that is required. It's not up to us to judge them but by their fruits we shall know them. Those who have the gift of discerning will know if they are for him or against him.

I've ran into a few people who for some reason have to put on the Christian act or face. For instance a man who was trying very hard to convince me of his Christianity but my spirit didn't bare witness with his. There's was that knowing but what was wrong in his life was not revealed. That's between him and God. That following week end this man had a party. In a drunken state his wife ran over him. He survived but more important through the years he finally accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour and is now a preacher.

Demons are real. People have to be careful what they open themselves up to. There's so much more that the human eyes don't see. Safe quard your walk with Jesus Christ and don't venture off into other doctrines {even those taught or told by other "Christians"}. If it can't be Biblically proven 110% stay away from it.

What most Christians have yet to learn is that satan has been changing God's word since the garden of Eden and he still is. Adam & Eve chose to believe his lies, don't do the same.

BTW don't chase demons. You have to be strong in Jesus Christ with the Holy Spirit leading just to know they exist.

I went to a tent revival where the evangelist claimed everyone he laid hands on who coughed had a demon. It was funny because the night I attenged he had a cough. He and others laid hands on a young boy (who didn't cough) and the boy went down. The evangelist said some things but than the boy tried to get up and the evangelist started yelling at the other men around the boy, don't let him up.

To make a long story short there was no demon in this boy. The evangelist would probably have a heart attack if he had encounter a real demon. My own brother is a follower of this man and believes his acts. Be safe in Jesus Christ and not followers of men.

This boy did not go there to be exorcised. He was used to farther this man's following/fame. Maybe this will make it clear:

That is sad for the boy. I did forget to point out that the boy can get dramatized from such event like that. It may lead him to think that all Christians are wacko.

Hopefully, the boy is already now a Christian.

Sometimes it is the environment. Say like the night clubs, drinking parties, occultic ritual practices, heathen places, and etc.

Some people are and some aren't. More likely a mature Christian will not face much of demonic oppressions. ANd people who are occultic are likely to get demonized or possessed.
