  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Deep devotion to Donald does not make a person a Christian.

Found the ancient "wall" that Israel built around Philestia? No.

How about the biblical command to have a Border Force? No.

What about the command to arrest the stranger? No.

What about the law to make border crossing a crime? No.

What about a law saying "arrest the undocumented stranger"? No.

A coast guard commanded by Yahweh? No.

Not much in the old testament to back up your thesis.

Please read Romans 13 regarding the laws of the land.

The laws of the city of Rome. The letter is written to the Romans. That means the Christians who live in Rome. So it is about a specific land. Some like to apply it to all lands but Paul wasn't writing about all lands. Just Rome.
Romans 13
1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
2 Therefore he who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of him who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval,
4 for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain; he is the servant of God to execute his wrath on the wrongdoer.
5 Therefore one must be subject, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience.
6 For the same reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing.
7 Pay all of them their dues, taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honour to whom honour is due.
8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbour has fulfilled the law.
9 The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not covet," and any other commandment, are summed up in this sentence, "You shall love your neighbour as yourself."
10 Love does no wrong to a neighbour; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
11 Besides this you know what hour it is, how it is full time now for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed;
12 the night is far gone, the day is at hand. Let us then cast off the works of darkness and put on the armour of light;
13 let us conduct ourselves becomingly as in the day, not in revelling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarrelling and jealousy.
14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
Paul's letter is not advice to obey government laws when the laws are wicked.

Think on these things:
Acts 5
11 And great fear came upon the whole church, and upon all who heard of these things.
12 Now many signs and wonders were done among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon's Portico.
13 None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high honour.
14 And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women,
15 so that they even carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and pallets, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them.
16 The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed.
17 But the high priest rose up and all who were with him, that is, the party of the Sad'ducees, and filled with jealousy
18 they arrested the apostles and put them in the common prison.
19 But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out and said,
20 "Go and stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this Life."
21 And when they heard this, they entered the temple at daybreak and taught. Now the high priest came and those who were with him and called together the council and all the senate of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
22 But when the officers came, they did not find them in the prison, and they returned and reported,
23 "We found the prison securely locked and the sentries standing at the doors, but when we opened it we found no one inside."
24 Now when the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were much perplexed about them, wondering what this would come to.
25 And some one came and told them, "The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people."
26 Then the captain with the officers went and brought them, but without violence, for they were afraid of being stoned by the people.
27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest questioned them,
28 saying, "We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and you intend to bring this man's blood upon us."
29 But Peter and the apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than men.
30 The God of our fathers raised Jesus whom you killed by hanging him on a tree.
31 God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.
32 And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him."

Hint: God's Word says to obey the laws of the nation you live in.

Romans 13
Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. 3 For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; 4 for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil. 5 Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for conscience’ sake. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing. 7 Render to all what is due them: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

And God says to obey the laws of the nation
Never when the laws are contrary to Christ. Obedience to the law is no excuse for wickedness. God will punish every evildoer no matter what the laws of the land command. Every Christian knows this to be true. Even the most duty bound and keen to serve the state. They all know the truth that human authority is to be obeyed only when such obedience is not sin.
Seek Jehovah while he may be found, call upon Him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his ways and the unrighteous man his thoughts. Let him return to Jehovah, and he will have mercy upon him, and to our God, he will abundantly pardon.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says Jehovah. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55: 6-9.

Never when the laws are contrary to Christ.

There is no command of Christ to promote illegal immigration into a gentile nation. And we all know it.

Is Christ not the Word made flesh, the one who inspires the prophets, and the one who revealed the Law to Moses, the prophets, and the rulers of Israel? Surely one who is a Seventh Day Adventist ought to know these things. So the law which teaches Israel to receive the stranger because Israel was a stranger in Egypt is applicable to you as one who preaches the ten commandments and the moral law as valid today. Have you not read the ten commandments? Look here and see:
Deuteronomy 5:12 ‘Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labour and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. 15 And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
Think on what God commanded:
Exodus 22:21 “You shall not wrong a sojourner or oppress him, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.
Leviticus 19:34
You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.
God warns his people not to mistreat strangers in their land:
Malachi 3:5
“Then I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the hired worker in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the Lord of hosts.
Jeremiah 22:3
Thus says the Lord: Do justice and righteousness, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor him who has been robbed. And do no wrong or violence to the resident alien, the fatherless, and the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place.
Some will dismiss these passages as "old testament" but can you do that in good conscience?

I take issue with people who seem to practically worship Trump. I also take issue with people who think that Trump isn't without sin, but their particular candidate is/was, and that it makes more sense to vote for people who are openly hostile to our faith than someone who at least tolerates it.

Here's the problem. How can you tell who "worships" Trump? I mean really ..

Is it those who are sick of one slander after the other and finally decided to defend Trump against a torrent of lies?

I don't think anyone can judge another person. I defended Obama when I thought he was right, or when I thought people were slandering him too. (Albeit I wasn't on this forum then)

My Christianity isn't tied to another man, nor do I even require my sitting president to be Christian.

To be honest all these atheists declaring Trumps sins as some kind of disqualification to office is a little ridiculous as they don't even believe in sin - they murder their own babies all the while speak of one man's private (so he thought) lude comment to another man as if it was a hanging offense..

TBH, I'd put an abject atheist in the white house if I thought he would actually do the job I put him into office to do..

Short of one area I'm very happy with Donald Trump as my president and so much so that I'm voting straight ticket republican this mid term, and will vote Trump again at the next election.

But that doesn't mean I worship Trump, nor does my defense of him in the face of slander.

So the law which teaches Israel to receive the stranger because Israel was a stranger in Egypt is applicable to you

To me individually - I am to be kind to strangers -- and most of the ones I meet are not criminals hiding from the law.

Nor do I have to help a criminal "just because he is also a stranger". That would be a bend-and-wrench of the text.

Many criminals these days... aiding crime is not the call of the Christian under the blind rule "yes but criminals could be a stranger to you".. And we all know it.
