Paleoconservatarian said:The trouble is that your friends reject the authority of the Bible. The correct answer for why homosexuality is wrong is precisely, "because the Bible says so." Pragmatic reasons are missing the point (even if they are good reasons to avoid a given activity). What you need to do is talk to your friends about why your authority is Holy Scripture, because if they reject it as God's inspired word, they've got bigger problems than homosexuality.
Lynn73 said:Biblically, there is no confusion. The Lord is very clear. But since the person doesn't accept biblical authority, they won't listen to that. Christians disagreeing on the subject makes it even more confusing.
I agree.
In other words, I like God, I don't like the Bible, so....countyfair said:Lol. The authority of the Bible. The only authority that little book has is what we give it. The Bible is only a tool, god given yes, but still a tool. God exists outside a bound manuscript. And the "word" of God is different than the "words" in the bible. The Word of God is eternal, the Bible will eventually rot, and be reincarnated into the trees.

There is always confusion over Biblical interpretation. Have you ever heard of a little thing called Christianity? No one has all the answeres, and there are always multiple interpretations of the bible. Whether they are correct or not is up for the individual to decide, with of course, gods help. Personally, I think that the Bible has many interpretations because it is used to serve a purpose, and that is to teach. There are many ways to teach things, and some lessons are used to teach more than one thing.
Doing a lot of picking and choosing among the verses you wish to apply arent you?Proselyte said:Yes but did he intend to say those things about your food example? In Matthew 15, he directly spoke about unclean food.
Jesus also didn't say anything absolving us of the abomination of homosexuality.
You claim to be Roman Catholic correct?HunterRose said:Doing a lot of picking and choosing among the verses you wish to apply arent you?

How can you go against the Tradition of the Church, including the Position of every Pope throughout history.
It seems you pick and choose your dogma.
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Colabomb again.

Have you ever heard of Christianity? Yeah, Christianity has always Trusted Scripture.
Here's a Treat.
Colabomb said:In other words, I like God, I don't like the Bible, so....
WOOHOO I can invent my own Christianity where anything goes and I always feel good!
There have been minor issues of interpretation throughout the issue of the Church.countyfair said:Why thank you!
Yes, Christianity is that big animal over there that has historically always argued about who is right and who is wrong. Christianity has almost never trusted "scripture".
Sorry that this may seem mean, but it is the truth. I consider myself a Christian because I trust in Jesus Christ as my way to God, through his death and resurection, and of course love.
So lets get our acts together, shall we?!
And I love you.countyfair said:Pretty much!
And I never sayed that I did not like the Bible.
I love the Bible! But I do not consult it like my crystal ball everytime I want to do something. My faith is is God, not a book. I do what I feel the spirit is leading me too, if it is going to church of bible study, I do it, if it is dancing naked in the moonlight, I do it. Gods greatest commandment, from the mouth of Jesus himself is to love. And is not it wonderful to feel that love? I know you can feel it too, even if you manifest it in weird ways.
Love you, SAH.
Colabomb said:There have been minor issues of interpretation throughout the issue of the Church.
However, the issue we are discussing here has never been questioned until recently when a group of liberal Christians decided they knew better than the clear teaching of Scripture, and the Interpretation that has been held by the Church Catholic throughout the ages.
Secondly, how do you know that Christ died for you, unless you trust the Scriptures that attest to that fact?
Colabomb said:And I love you.
However, I believ e that God determines what True love is. And, in His perfect Love, he has given us guidelines by which to live that will lead us to his Will and perfect Joy.
I am equally disgusted by abortion.countyfair said:lol. Minor issues. In case you did not know, there have always been different branches, who interpreted and acted out Christianity in their own, unique ways. Lets look at Egypt, China, Japan, Rome, India and Isreal. There were Christians there, who accepted the teachings of Jesus, but who all have different traditions, and have since before the formation of the roman catholic church!
And the reason that this passage has rarely been questioned before is because it has never been a huge issue until now. I am undecided, because the Bible is NOT as clear as many say on it. It never is! Frankly, I think there are more important sin problems in the world today, than the issue of same sex marriage. How many babies are killed in the united states each year? Yeah. Lets get our priorities straight.
Colabomb said:But that is not the issue at hand. Sin is sin and should be fought at all opportunities.
Colabomb said:I am equally disgusted by abortion.
I will debate all comers on that too.
But that is not the issue at hand. Sin is sin and should be fought at all opportunities.
What is sin? Or do you reject that such a thing exists?countyfair said:Who says is sin? Did Jesus say it was a sin?
And what part of it is a sin?
Is it simply me marrying a member of the same sex sinful?
Or is the very act of being attracted sexually to a member of the same sex sinful?
What if there is mutual attraction, and we....??
First things first, the sin needs to be defined.
Why is this wrong?
Then, why is this wrong?
Is this because the Bible tells us so?
What exactly does the Bible say about it?
And, why does the Bible say this? How else can this be interpreted?
