  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I believe there's an afterlife of some sort, but I'm not too concerned. I prefer to live my life as it is, and let the future sort itself out. And if it turns out there really isn't an afterlife... well, I won't care once I'm gone.

I'd be pretty concerned if I were you. =/ Your destination won't just figure itself out; you either accept Christ as your savior or you don't.

This life is just a flash-fire compared to the life to come. We do ourselves much harm when we life with such short-sightedness.

St. Isaac the Syrian said, "This life if given for repentance. Do not waste it in vain pursuits."

And a very shaky foundation it is.

Not as shaky as the intellect of a finite being. Do you really think you see everything that may exist, clearly?

I don't base my faith on those things I've seen or my reason, but instead by faith in the revealed God.

My concept of the afterlife is much different from yours. I believe that if I'm going anywhere, it will be with my Gods. If I'm lucky, I may even wind up in the care of my patron... and if that happens, it will be very much in my best interest to let go of my concerns. His path is not an easy one, and there's nothing to be gained by worrying about it.

That after we die we'll go to a place of waiting that is free from the turmoils of life, to learn or to teach. That during this time after death those who did not get to know the gospel, or come to an understanding of it will have their chance to accept it, then when Christ Comes everyone will be reunited with their body, except that it shall be a an immmortal perfect body, after which we will be judged and sent to what we deserve, for those who've done all they could to come to Christ will be rewarded with all that God has to offer them, those have done most but not all will be rewarded similarly and so on and so forth even on down to those who have completely rejected God and Christ, will be given a reward of not having anything of God's or Christ's.

What are your thoughts concerning death? Where do we go? What do we do in an afterlife?

You know when you sleep really hard and there's no feeling of the passage of time between going to bed and waking up?

I figure it something like that, but I don't really know...

My brain will cease to function and "I" will no longer exist in any capacity, as my concious and unconcious personality is soley a creation of the intact organ.

The Christian afterlife or the Mormon afterlife?
No how you think what happens in the after life, it can be mormon, Christian, hindu, buddhist, or anything parallell or in between.

When our spirit is rent from our body, it is carried to heaven where an immediate judgement takes place, afterwhich we either reside in Heaven or Hell. There we remain until the final judgement before Chrsit where each man will give an account of his or her life. After that we will be rewarded according to our faith and deeds. The Orthodox Church rejects the catholic innovation of a purgatory. Our placement is based on the events of this life.

There are what, 6 billion people on this planet? Does any one of them have any verifiable evidence at all that we do anything other than cease to exist? And I don't mean what somebody said after a heart attack. I mean something we could all walk up to and say "yeah, wow! Look! There really is life after death!". No? Then why would anybody think it would be true?

Shouldn't people who believe this stuff at least be willing to say that you just hope it's true, but you can't really know?

well, there are the litteral cases of where someone was clinically dead (so far as one has come across, such cases are from surgeon reports), but still came back and lived.

Resusitations such as this are fairly common.

There is more out there than what you see.

I can't see that well to start with, what with being nearsighted with double vision.

The proof of the afterlife is like the proof of God's existence. It's part of a different unseen world which cannot be scientifically proven. Sorry.

There also might be less than what some people read into when searching scripture.
