• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Bible is different.

Anyone who thinks Wikipedia is on a par with the Bible has rocks in their head (or rock strata on the brain).

Just saying that you seem to pick and choose a lot when it comes to both...

I'll agree with you on that one, for the most part, but not necessarily in favor of either the bible or Wikipedia.

They are both useful. And neither one is the "word of God". So I guess they have more in common that would be thought at first glance.

It's a great quote by Augustine.

So....when the scriptures are at odds with reality, ditch reality and always believe the tall stories....

Augustine must be an ancestor of Henry Morris......

It says just the opposite. It says that christians should not take up positions that cause them to contradict evidence and reason from the natural world that all people have access to. Francis Collins modernized the quote a bit:

"The tragedy of young-earth creationism is that it takes a relatively recent and extreme view of Genesis, applies to it an unjustified scientific gloss, and then asks sincere and well-meaning seekers to swallow this whole, despite the massive discordance with decades of scientific evidence from multiple disciplines. Is it any wonder that many sadly turn away from faith concluding that they cannot believe in a God who asks for an abandonment of logic and reason?"--Francis Collins, "Faith and the Human Genome"
