Hello everyone. Sorry this post is very tenuously related to music but bear with me... I'm a student working on a college project which involves developing a simple application aimed at helping people motivate themselves and manage their time more effectively. I figured it might possibly come in useful for any musicians who like to set targets for how much time they will spend practicing per week. So... if anybody (musician or not) has a spare moment and would like to fill in my quick questionnaire then I'd very much appreciate it. Cheers.

1) Do you come under any of the following categories?
a) Student who must spend a significant amount of time in unsupervised study, i.e. there’s no-one to tell you when to study, you have to decide yourself when to do so.
b) A worker who has the freedom to set his/her work hours and who works without supervision, e.g. a freelance writer or designer.
c) Someone who has an interest which requires him/her to put aside time to pursue his/her interest in an unsupervised environment, e.g. someone practicing a self-imposed home fitness regime, someone privately learning a language material in their spare time or someone practicing a musical instrument.
d) Someone who doesn’t come under any of the above categories. [If this is your answer you do not need to fill in the rest of the questionnaire]
YOUR ANSWER (you may come under more than one category):

2) Do you sometimes find it difficult to motivate yourself to do this work/study/interest or worry that you have not spent as much time on it as you should have?
a) Frequently
b) Sometimes
c) Rarely
YOUR ANSWER:

3) I am developing a simple application which would allow the user to set daily time targets for his/herself to achieve on a given task (e.g. five hours every weekday and one hour every weekend day) and then use a built-in timer to record how much work he/she actually does. The application would tell you how much more time you need to spend working in order to achieve your target. If you fail to meet your target for a given day, it would carry the unmet target-time over to the next day. For example, if you set yourself a target of five hours every weekday, but only achieved three hours of work on Monday, then you would have to complete seven hours of work on Tuesday in order meet your target. Assuming the application was simple and convenient to use, do you think you would find it useful?
a) Definitely
b) Probably
c) Maybe
d) Probably not
e) Definitely not [If this is your answer you do not need to fill in the rest of the questionnaire]
YOUR ANSWER:

4) If you do think you would find it useful, would you prefer to use such an application on your computer (whether a laptop or desktop) or, assuming you posses one and assuming the application would work on it, on your handheld device (i.e. a PDA or a mobile phone)?
a) Computer
b) Handheld device
c) Don’t know/no preference
YOUR ANSWER:

5) What handheld devices (PDAs or mobile phones) do you own? Please list the manufacturer and model (if known), e.g. Nokia 3310.
YOUR ANSWER:

6) Assuming you found the application useful, do you think you would be willing to pay a small fee (e.g. £3.50/$6.90/€5.20) for such an application?
a) Definitely
b) Probably
c) I don’t know
d) Probably not
e) Definitely not
YOUR ANSWER:

7) Would you be interested in testing such an application? If so, please email me with the word ‘tester’ in the subject line at : general AT nholz DOT com
