Proverbs 28:

Praying For Our Nation and Leaders.

3328.gif

"The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will." ~Pr 21:1

THIS verse below is WHY we are admonished to pray for our leaders. In addition we are to pray for ALL the leaders of the world, including our own leaders.

Proverbs 28:

Mercy.

Mercy. How we desperately need it. ALL of us.

God help us to show mercy and to be forgiving, especially to those who do not "deserve it". God how THEY need it most. May You work in our hearts to be gracious, merciful, and forgiving, and let us remember that WE did not "deserve it" either. May it be so, in the name of Jesus, amen.

Proverbs 28:

Moral Rot.

Our nation is permeated with it. Are we any different than Sodom and Gomorrah? Even to the very laws that are being passed or pushed to be passed, are permeated with the epitome of abominations against the living God. And yet even more of those laws are passed daily so that if we heed God we will be jailed and/or fined, etc.

It is waaaaay past time to be praying for our nation, and us, the American people. If we haven't been, let's begin right now. Our country is in dire dire straits.

God help us. May God have mercy on us.

Pray for our nation.

Proverbs 28:

The Tragedy.

"The wicked flee when no man pursueth; but the righteous are bold as a lion." ~Pr 28:

It is written that the wicked flee like a lion is after them, even when no one, least of all a lion, is chasing them. They are plagued, "cursed", if you will, with "condemnation", even if they attempt to drown it out with alcohol or drugs, or distractions, etc. There is no "running from it", because it is right there in their heart, and mind, how utterly "wicked" they are, and they get no rest or relief or peace of mind. They are "haunted" by their own wickedness, which has done taken them "hostage".

Judas comes to mind. He experienced this. That is why he was driven to hang himself. The tragedy is that He KNEW "WHO" Jesus was/is, and yet he avoided going TO Him for forgiveness, like the plague.

He would have found mercy and forgiveness.

Yet he rejected it.

Tragic.

Proverbs 28 Proverbs 28New International Version (NIV)
28 The wicked flee though no one pursues,
but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

2 When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers,
but a ruler with discernment and knowledge maintains order.

3 A ruler[a] who oppresses the poor
is like a driving rain that leaves no crops.

4 Those who forsake instruction praise the wicked,
but those who heed it resist them.

5 Evildoers do not understand what is right,
but those who seek the Lord understand it fully.

6 Better the poor whose walk is blameless
than the rich whose ways are perverse.

7 A discerning son heeds instruction,
but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.

8 Whoever increases wealth by taking interest or profit from the poor
amasses it for another, who will be kind to the poor.

9 If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction,
even their prayers are detestable.

10 Whoever leads the upright along an evil path
will fall into their own trap,
but the blameless will receive a good inheritance.

11 The rich are wise in their own eyes;
one who is poor and discerning sees how deluded they are.

12 When the righteous triumph, there is great elation;
but when the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding.

13 Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper,
but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

14 Blessed is the one who always trembles before God,
but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble.

15 Like a roaring lion or a charging bear
is a wicked ruler over a helpless people.

16 A tyrannical ruler practices extortion,
but one who hates ill-gotten gain will enjoy a long reign.

17 Anyone tormented by the guilt of murder
will seek refuge in the grave;
let no one hold them back.

18 The one whose walk is blameless is kept safe,
but the one whose ways are perverse will fall into the pit.[b]

19 Those who work their land will have abundant food,
but those who chase fantasies will have their fill of poverty.

20 A faithful person will be richly blessed,
but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.

21 To show partiality is not good—
yet a person will do wrong for a piece of bread.

22 The stingy are eager to get rich
and are unaware that poverty awaits them.

23 Whoever rebukes a person will in the end gain favor
rather than one who has a flattering tongue.

24 Whoever robs their father or mother
and says, “It’s not wrong,”
is partner to one who destroys.

25 The greedy stir up conflict,
but those who trust in the Lord will prosper.

26 Those who trust in themselves are fools,
but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.

27 Those who give to the poor will lack nothing,
but those who close their eyes to them receive many curses.

28 When the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding;
but when the wicked perish, the righteous thrive.

Since there are 28 Proverbs contained in this chapter I am only going to address a few things I see from reading this chapter.

Has anyone noticed that Verses 12 and 28 are very similar?

12 When the righteous triumph, there is great elation;
but when the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding.

28 When the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding;
but when the wicked perish, the righteous thrive.

I also noticed that there seems to be a theme of 'the rulers' and 'the people' in this chapter.

And these two stood out to me:

9 If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction,
even their prayers are detestable.

and

21 To show partiality is not good—
yet a person will do wrong for a piece of bread.

I looked up a couple of other versions of the translation and for verse 9 it could be

Whoever turns his ear away from hearing the law,even his prayer is detestable.

God detests the prayers of a person who ignores the law.

If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.

One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer is an abomination.

I wonder if that still holds true today?

Verse 21 is pretty straight forward in most version so I see it as saying that holding one over the other is a wrong way to treat people, we are all equal. Showing partiality is wrong, but a person would do so just to feed his stomach (or ego in what the case may be).

What comes to mind for me is what kind of lengths man would go to with bribery, and/or just as Esau did, to "sell" his birthright for a bowl of pottage. The quote that comes to mind is that "everyone can be bought for a price".

The first verse here brings to mind how, when a heart and mind is bereft of a clear conscience and heart, that there is no peace, and that such a one is constantly "looking over their shoulder", so to speak. They literally have no haven or safe refuge. Their own conscience haunts and "follows" them, even into their dreams.

How utterly tragic and sad is that? Rejecting Jesus' promise where He beckons all to 'Come unto Me all ye who are weary and heavy-laden and I will gve you rest" is heart-breakingly tragic. They continue bow down to the one that despises and hates them and has them in a boat headed for that chasm-of-no-return.

:sad:

As i was reading Proverbs 28 this morning, the very first verse kinda' stopped me in me tracks.

Well that's a description of David, right there, isn't it?

David was bold as a lion as he faced down that ol' bully giant Goliath.

This is not the first time that David boldly faced down big ol' enemies. He had also previously killed a lion and a bear to protect his flock. He was merely a boy, but God raised this boy David and trained him to be a fearless warrior, there, in the wilderness where he shepherded his flock, and was such a dedicated shepherd, that he would've given his life for his flock.

Does this remind us of another Shepherd Who DID give His Life for us?
