Daniel Fast

Is it supposed to be Biblical? In our church, when we fast, we go on basically a vegan diet (you can cook the veggies any way you like, just not with olive oil) and you add to the vegan diet shellfish (they were the food of the poor in ancient times) and subtract olive oil (a luxury), fish with backbones, and alcoholic beverages. If your health doesn't allow this, you can check with the priest and add dairy products and eggs back into your diet.

Our fast isn't Bible based, it's based on the tradition of our church, the way we've always done things, and we fast at certain times of the week (Wednesdays and Fridays to remember the betrayal and crucifixion of Our Lord) and certain times of the year like Lent and Nativity (or Advent, although ours is six weeks long). Our fasts aren't abstaining completely from food, just abstaining from fish with backbones, meat, dairy, eggs, olive oil, alcohol, and olive oil. The idea is also that while we abstain and save money on foods, we use that money we save for giving to the poor.

When it is talking about no bread and whatnot, the issue of communion kept coming to mind. Does this prevent you from taking communion?
NO, this doesn't prevent you from taking communion, communion is the body and blood of Christ and you should take it year round if you are adequately prepared (confession and prayer and no food from midnight until communion if you can handle it healthwise)
