Dancing

Do you believe dancing is sinful?

I believe it can be given other added ingredients, but I do not believe that danceful in itself is sinful.

I ask this because I have found different views on the topic within my old church.

I.E.
It is only alright to dance with your spouse inside your home.

I think we covered this before but I do not mind answering again. I think it is fine if it is done in a right manner. Who could say that the waltz is a dance of the devil? On the other hand doin da butt is a pretty suggestive thing.

Honestly I think as long as it is not "dirty" dancing I wouldn't have a problem with it. Defining dirty is pretty easy. Would you dance that way with Jesus?

You realize that in the 1st century synagogue when Jesus was the teacher for that day part of the job of the teacher was to parade/dance the scrolls through the synagoge.

Being a disciple means learning to do what your rabbi/teacher/master does, so by golly I'm gonna dance.

I'm pretty sure I expressed this else where...but I'll do so again I think dancing is what you make of it...which could be said for just about any other event.

Its not just older baptist sects that believe dancing is wrong! I know some Assemblies of God pastors who won't allow their children to dance at all. On A/G PK's wedding I was at had NO dancing at all -- because it was believed that dancing should only happen between married couples. And if they had dancing at the wedding, they couldn't control who danced. *shrugs* As for me, I love a good swing dance, contra or waltz myself. And 4 years on a dance team definatly effects my opinions

I think most its fine for the most part, but dont subject me to the visual stimuli of you grinding whoever, those dances do nothing but stir the passions of the loins and are quite seductive to the sap who watches them, namely me. In my opinion its those type of dances that are wrong.

Hehe, there are still baptist churches that don't believe in alot of things. I.E. raising hands, adding music other than hymns, banning anything other than pianos or organs as "church" instruments, redefining traditions or basically worshipping the Lord, who the last time I checked was still alive and seated at the right hand of the Father.

As for dancing. If it's done before the Lord or to give Him praise, then what's the problem?

Just kidding, yeah I heard it from my own mother that I needed to be careful going to those Baptist churches as they are too legalistic. I guess some are, but our church got emptied out of the big heads a few years ago, and things are changing. Slow but they are changing. By the time I am eighty (good Lord willing) they might have dancing in our church, by then I won't be able to jump and dance

I guess some are, but our church got emptied out of the big heads a few years ago, and things are changing. Slow but they are changing. By the time I am eighty (good Lord willing) they might have dancing in our church, by then I won't be able to jump and dance

LOL. I'm glad my church, which is baptist, isn't too legalistic. We have order in our services, but if someone wants to raise their hands, play a guitar or gasp, drums, then it's ok. I think dancing will soon be integrated into our services, but it could be a while.

But the only dancing we will see here is if they can incorporate the buffet line into an actual line dance.

I thought people were going to freak out while the choir was singing "soon and very soon" by Andre Crouch. They even had the choir grabbing people from their seats. It was a scandal. I loved it!

I think that it is the official position of the A/G that dancing is not allowed, but that is only social dancing, and I think that it is somehting that isn't that heavily enforced. My best friends dad came from and AG background and he wouldn't let her or any of her sisters go to dances for the longest time.

As for dancing. If it's done before the Lord or to give Him praise, then what's the problem?

That is just a foregin concept to me because even when I went to a baptist chruch we did a lot of those things (except the instruments and the no other songs. I think that was jsut because that was all the people knew, and still then we sang some newer songs).

BTW I also went to a youth group at a baptist chruch where I played drums in the band, and for their sunday mornings they had a band, too.

I know that some of the more conservative/evangelical Quakers don't (or at least used to not) dace for whatever reason. I don't think dancing is a sin. Depends what you're dancing for. I'd say dancing because you're happy something bad has happened to celebrate someone elses misfortune is wrong, IMO.
