If our old man is still in control the "natural" response is to retaliate..The new man has to get on his knees, and pray for the perpetrators of this horrible crime. Is this really a Christian forum????????

Exactly, but everyone else thinks it's such an easy thing to cave into terrorism. It's such a double-edged sword either way, really. I think we should keep doing what we're doing & not be bullied into not doing business with other countries. The same people who criticize Bush for keeping relations with Saudi are also the same ones who criticized him for investigating our oil reserves within our own country in places like Alaska. Which way do you want it, folks? (I'd personally would rather that we continue to take from a desert in Saudi then ruin our nature preserves in Alaska). I don't think Americans are going to all run out & buy these Hybrids or start riding bicycles on the freeways anytime soon...

BTW, on a side note: I always respect the opinions of y'all, whether I agree or not, because I got nuttin' but love for you guys. Most of your posts are very interesting and thought-provoking, even if I stand on the opposite side of the issue. However, "aeroz19" was just expressing her very strong, grieving emotions about the shock on this latest beheading, & I don't think she deserved such attacking posts - whether you felt she was justified or not in how she worded her "venting". Leave her alone for goodness sakes. If you don't agree, roll your eyes and simply ignore posts like that - why waste the time to argue and make someone feel even worse??? Just my opinion, ok?

.........If Bin Ladin were actually able to achieve his goal, America would be shut out of Saudi oil completely. Meanwhile global warming and pollution remain pressing issues...problems future generations will have to face because of our greed and excess. Of course the road we are on may just hasten Armagedon in which case the wasteful habits of North Americans won't matter.

But Americans are the only ones qualified to run the oil production in Saudi Arabia. Who else could do this? The Saudis? The rebels? They would never be able to produce enough oil to influence the market, and thereby be able to charge $40 a barrel.

You make a good point. But I would like to point out my reason for being generally opposed to drilling in the Alaskan reserves (I'm also for reduction of dependence on the House of Saud) - all the data I'm seen suggests that the Alaskan reserves are very limited, and would not provide a long-term supply. I've seen varying figures, but none of them gave, in my opinion, a long enough supply for us to switch over 100% to non-fossil fuel energy supplies. I don't support ruining a wilderness preserve as a highly temporary fix - it's too short sighted. If it could be shown to me (with trustworthy data, and not from an oil drilling company, for obvious reasons) that the Alaskan reserves does represent a long-term solution, I would take that into account and consider modifying my opinion, but as it stands now, I can't even consider endorsing drilling there.

Instead, I think we should look into the huge Siberian oil resources. Russia doesn't have the material and technical resources to really tap them, but the US might. To my mind, a Russia-US partnership on oil would be much more comfortable than a US-Saudi partnership. Russia does some pretty sketchy stuff sometimes, but seems to be moving in a generally positive direction. And it's not a monarchy. Plus, as a fellow Security Council member, an alliance between us and Russia might make things go more smoothly in the UN.
