  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

yup...... ok well at times yesterday parent teacher confernce, so 2hrs, the other day went back later in the day so that made it 4 hrs......why am i not losing, could i execerise anymore?yesterday the elliptical ok i underdatnd no the most accurate but somewhat........said i burned 500 cals........then a little treadmill and stomach and left, so lastnight at a freinds agfter i ate i went on her treamill, burned ok only100 cals had a glass of wine and i am not one to drink.....so i got off..lol *** how much more can i do? is there such a thing as to much exercise i would doubt it?

diet is also a MAJOR factor in losing weight. I can exercise like a crazy man and not lose fat, but as soon as I drop certain things off my diet, BAM, fat goes away.

3 hrs a day in the gym is wayyy too much. Personally I like to use weight training to keep my heart rate in the fat burning regime. I lift hard enough to do that. Then I use cardio machines to get my heart in the cardio regime.

Anabolic exercise burns calories in a more efficient manner then aerobic. During and several hours after a mondo leg workout I will burn at least 1000 calories.

i am not worried about my eating havbits at all, if anything i am now in the negative where calories verses exercise is concerned, but the thing with weight training is if you put on muscle you gain weight i just gone done talking to the personal trainer at the gym and he assured me i would put on a few lbs.... this i am not willing to risk.....so i rather do the cardio, if i have to go back 2xs a day i will,:sigh:

So .... your main concern is pounds. So you're not willing to put on a few lbs due to muscle gain, even though you will likely be more fit, lose fat, build muscle, and possibly wind up in better health than you've ever been in your entire life. But you also said that "but for me it is more about how you feel than a number on a scale."

Unless you have the intensity on the elliptical set to nill (in which case the calories will be burned at a fairly slow rate), you will definitely be putting on some lean muscle, which may cause a slight weight gain even though you can experience fat loss. That is *not* a bad thing. And let me paraphrase fitmom "more lean tissue [muscle], at exercise or rest you are burning more calories."

With 3 hours in the gym a day ... and only 5 lbs ... you're becoming obssessed imho. Eat right ... do some reasonable exercise ... and don't fear the lean tissue.

Is it possible that you really are in the negative as far as calories consumed vs calories burnt? If so, perhaps your body has been tricked into thinking that it's being starved and as a result, it's holding on to any/all body fat in a desperate attempt to get enough energy to survive?

I agree here. You are not appoaching this fitness plan in a way that will cause you to succeed. You are setting yourself up for failure. You are exercising too much and not consuming enough or the right amount of calories. You are not setting safe and reasonable goals. I generally don't speak in the negative, but I think you need someone to be straight with you.
You need to see a Personal Trainer and get a program and an education re. exercise and exercise physiology.
You need to go to the gym 4x/week for 1 hr. You need to understand the health benefits of lean body mass. FYI, muscle weighs more than fat, but is MUCH smaller, therefore, so will your body be (unless you are male and train for hypertrophy)(or get steroid shots). You need to understand that the rest period between training is when our bodies 'adapt' to the exercise. You are becoming obsessed, and if you were my client I would set up some guidlines for you to follow, and if you could not I would refer you to a therapist.
Slow down and do this right, then you will benefit for life. I promise.
God Bless you, J

this is good news! How about setting a short term and long term goal using the SMART principle, this is what I use with my own clients.:This web page looks helpful

another question we should ask is how long have you kept your regime? Fat loss takes time, and unless you have been at it for at least 4 months I would say you are being impatient. You will definitely start losing fat within 1 month, but our minds are easily tricked and you won't notice the fat loss.

Instead of using the scale, use your pants. The looser your pants feel, the more fat you have lost. My last girlfriend never ate anything and she weighed about 100 lbs at 5'7". My girlfriend before her weighed 130 lbs at 5'7", AND SHE HAD SMALLER MEASUREMENTS.

Girlfriend #2 was smaller and heavier and much much much more healthy. Do not be afraid of lean mass. My waist is smaller now that I weigh 205 lbs then when I weighed 165 lbs.

Another reason why measuring weight is a poor testament of your fat loss is body water retention. You can dehydrate yourself and lose a quick 10 lbs, but you have just as much fat as you did 10 lbs heavier.

Don't be afraid of lifting weights,it is an age old myth that if women lift weights it will make them bulkier.

When I first started going to the gym, the first two weeks instead of loosing I actually GAINED. Was I in the pits, Yes, did I eventually loose, YES! You have to look at your patterns, and realize that it's not just about weight, but living this way for life. Is going to the gym 3hrs a day always going to be feasible?

Also your body needs days to re-cuup, and usually the days that you re-cuup actually helps you to loose weight. This is not a rush, 5 pounds is nothing. I've only lost 6/7 pounds in two months, but I'm not discouraged bc this is a lifetime thing, and is about BEING and feeling healthy. You can LOOK healthy on the outside, but be sickly in the inside. You admit this is an obsession.

Have you prayed about this, have you asked yourself WHY this is an obsession. Excessive working out, is equal to any eating disorder, and you may want to re-evaluate your approach!

Ok but i could not believe not working out everyday is better than skipping a day or 2, to me that makes no sense.if you do cardio everyday get your heart rate up, you burn calories, so if you do not do it for a day or 2 no cals burned.....
