Flags are symbols, symbols have meaning. If they were flying a pentagram in honor of Satan, many Christians would be justifiably outraged. Likewise if they were flying the flag of Nazi Germany, Jewish people (and many other people) would be justifiably outraged. Flags are symbols, symbols have meaning.I have no issue it is a FLAG OK a FLAG.
Yes, but that does not mean that it means the same thing. I can be proud of being southern and still have no problem with blacks. Remember, the civil war was also over state's rights. Most in the south actually did not own slaves and some that did were actually black. In fact who SOLD the people into salvery their own people.Flags are symbols, symbols have meaning. What is the picture? I mean what is the point?
You cannot select the history you like and conveniently ignore the facts that you don't like. A main cause of the Civil War was slavery.Yes, but that does not mean that it means the same thing. I can be proud of being southern and still have no problem with blacks. Remember, the civil war was also over state's rights.
Who owned slaves is irrelevant, the Confederacy, and those who fought for it, would have preserved the institution of slavery. Who sold their own people? Africans did not see themselves in terms of color, so the fact that they would sell an enemy to a European slave trader does not mean they sold their own people. Regardless of skin color, slavery is subjugating and oppressing your own people. Most in the south actually did not own slaves and some that did were actually black. In fact who SOLD the people into salvery their own people.
It never stopped being an issue, just because you didn't notice it does not mean it was not considered an issue. Also, it seems to me that this did not become a big issue until recently.
Meanings change, and the meaning of the Confederate flag became worse when it was taken up as a mantle to protest desegregation. As I said, you can't just ignore the inconvenient facts. If you want to bring up Germany then I would like to say that that SAME styoble was used by CHRISTIANS centries earlier on their graves when Christianity was outlawed. There was NOTHING violent about it at the time.
Meanings change.
Well, no,, but it is not as if most in the south today dislike blacks it is about being proud of being southern if people cannot handle that that is their issue. ( as a whole). In fact I hate REVERSE racism as much if not more than I hate traditional racism and no just because I am white. You cannot select the history you like and conveniently ignore the facts that you don't like. The flag of Hawaii. We have fought two bloody wars with Great Britain, yet the symbol of the bloody regime of King George III still adorns a state flag. Where is the outrage? What is the picture? I mean what is the point?
Perhaps the Confederacy and being Southern are two different things, many African Americans apparently understand this. What does reverse racism have to do with anything? (There is no such thing as reverse racism unless reverse racism means you love everybody).Well, no,, but it is not as if most in the south today dislike blacks it is about being proud of being southern if people cannot handle that that is their issue. I guess maybe they figure that they were the last to come in the union. The flag of Hawaii. We have fought two bloody wars with Great Britain, yet the symbol of the bloody regime of King George III still adorns a state flag. Where is the outrage?
No reverse racism is when the MAJORITY group are the victims pf racism such as the black care being played or the idea of "white Privilege" whatever that is.Perhaps the Confederacy and being Southern are two different things, many African Americans apparently understand this. Pointing out white privilege is reverse racism? What institutions do African Americans control that would suggest reverse racism is occurring? Better yet, was South African apartheid an example of reverse racism? No reverse racism is when the MAJORITY group are the victims pf racism such as the black care being played or the idea of "white Privilege" whatever that is.
States rights to do anything slavery was part of it, but it was not the only issue.States Right to have slavery wherever they want (Lincon and co opposed to it in new territories).
And one does not need to own a slave to support the institution and promote racism.
See, they didn't support slavery, they just fought for it.States rights to do anything slavery was part of it, but it was not the only issue.
While one may not have to OWN a slave, but still that does not mean that EVERYONE in the south supported slaverty just because they lived in a particular area.
yes,Pointing out white privilege is reverse racism? What institutions do African Americans control that would suggest reverse racism is occurring? Better yet, was South African apartheid an example of reverse racism?
Do you not know what white privilege is? I can provide an example.
I do not understand what you're saying, please clarify your post.yes,
Reverse racism or racism does not have to be ONLY in places a person can be racist and yet not own the first bit of land.
