Here's a thought....

Anyone seriouse about CS KNOWS you need to wear headphones as listening for your enemy is critical....

...but the Xbox live headset only has one ear peice and I think thats only for voice right? (not got mine yet)

So how we gonna wear that AND headphones???

Hmm I can see Xbox wont replace my PC yet as platform of choice.

And am I the only person that thinks Gamespy is too commercial?

I liked it in the good old days where advertising was no where to be seen and everything was free man free!!!!!
Almost everyone I have talked to about CS on xbox, says its not that good. The graphics are weak, and the game play isn't ideal for clan play.

There are no headphone slots for the xbox neither. If you have the PC version of this game, then from what I gather, don't bother with the xbox version. Especially seeing that the xbox doesn't have a mouse.

Cheers for the feedback. I didnt think it would be as good on Xbox :(

Headphones I would have plugged into the TV or Amp, but still cant wear them END the Live headgear together :(

But then Xbox does support 5.1 surround (New speakers at high volume?) but then one ear is impared by the live headgear!! Hmm this live headgear thing is a pain.

Anyway....

Talking of no mouse.. did you know that the mother board in the Xbox does have USB ports. And you can use them IF you mod the system..... and if you do that, Xbox live will ban your box.

:(

...and also I totaly agree that 1337 was NOT an invention of CS players. I started substituting characters and numbers for letters for my game tags YEARS ago. Waaaaaaay before most CS players were born (maybe not).

Where did I get the idea? Network security. alphanumeric pass words are harder to crack than just plain alpha and so many admins started just substituting letters with numbers.

1337 indeed!!! HA

I think mouse and keyboard is better than the XBOX controller.
I agree a little. I play Battlefield 1942 with Keyboard and mouse and love it. But I like the Xbox controller better when playing Splinter Cell. When it comes to Rainbow Six 3, I am going to have to go with the Xbox. Voice recognition, online voice chat, and it only took a little time to get use to the Xbox controller over the keyboard and mouse. Just like in flight Sims, the keyboard and mouse is silly. As for Counter Strike, most people I've seen like the Xbox version, it's a new challenge, plus voice chat, no lag, No h4x0r5. I didn't like the head set for the Xbox, so I got a different head set at Wal-Mart for $9.99. The Xbox does support 5.1-surround sound, which I use and it sounds better that any headphones I've had on.

Here is part of a review I saw:
Counter-Strike, the PC game, is built upon Half-Life technology dating to 1998. As such, it's not the prettiest game on the block, even if you're inclined to download additional skins and texture packs. In bringing the game to the console market, Valve took the opportunity to enhance the visuals. While this title doesn't necessarily look as good as other games on the Xbox, it is clearly the best-looking version of Counter-Strike currently available. The maps have been retextured and bump-mapped for increased visual quality. The lighting is much improved and features a new technique that adjusts the texture brightness to simulate the way a human eye reacts to changes between indoor and outdoor environments.

This feature is actually really interesting as it makes it more difficult to spot an enemy indoors if you happen to be outside. The character and weapon models have also been rebuilt for increased visual quality. Unfortunately, though the models look much better than they ever have, character animation is poor. Movements are jerky and unrealistic, though this isn't really anything new for an FPS and it doesn't detract from gameplay. While the game won't win any awards for its visuals, it's not bad looking by any means, and it's definitely a step forward for the series.

Xbox vs. PC

I suppose the real question that must be answered is this: Is there any reason to play Counter-Strike on Xbox if you've played before on the PC? The answer will be different for different people. The Xbox version has superior graphics, 18 maps, (there are 11 remakes from the PC version and seven new Xbox exclusives), new models, awesome voice communication, and hopefully very little cheating over Xbox Live. Valve and Microsoft are also promising additional downloadable content, though right now it is not clear whether or not we'll just see new maps or if any additional gameplay modifications will be available.

Of course, with the PC version, there are tons of modifications, maps, and texture packs currently available to enhance gameplay. And, of course, there's the cheating issue. It's very hard to determine whether or not gamers with PC Counter-Strike experience will enjoy this version. I personally enjoyed learning to play again with a controller. I enjoy the increased communication of the headset. I enjoy the graphical upgrades. Mostly, I just enjoy knowing that everybody is on a level playing field and my skills are what will determine my score -- and I can really only enjoy that in the console version of the game.

Counter-Strike is a fantastic online shooter for the Xbox. In fact, it's possibly the best game currently available for Xbox Live. Conversely, the single-player game offers very little gameplay and thus the title will likely not be too attractive to offline gamers. But what the game sets out to achieve, it achieves quite well. If you're in the market for an addictive shooter that will likely have quite an online following, I can easily recommend Counter-Strike for Xbox.

Hmmm the more I read the more interested I become. CS with no hackers eh? Now that WOULD be good. Then at last I would know of sure if the rest of the world IS hacking, or if I really am that bad.

And yeah, EVERYONE would be using the same controller. Interesting.

But still dont want to have to buy a whole knew stereo system just so that I can rig up 5 speakers because I cant use headphones.

But then I could take my many hours of counter strike into the living room and stop myself spending too much time so close to a monitor and that has to be a bonus.

Im asuming smoke grenades wont lag the Xbox also as the game is built for that system. (PC is P4 2.4 Ghz HT, 1 GB RAM with a Geforce FX 5600 128MB and smoke grens STILL affect it :( although I do run at a stupidly high res)

Maybe once I'm Xbox Lived, I'll hire it and post a user review. I never trust full reviews anymore as EVERYTHING is down to marketing. All it takes is cash to get a good review AND THATS A FACT.

i bet more than half of the people you thought were hacking were in fact not. most hackers are extremely easy to spot and are usually banned pretty quickly. really good players can seem like their cheating.

The nessecity of having the "Cheating Death" program running in order to join most servers is absolute Proof that hackers were a real, and big problem.

There are less now, but even people using Aim_bots, or changing thier interp settings happens all the time.

I personaly see no point in hacking. It's like playing a game with all the cheats on and then saying you've beaten the game.

CS is a good game even on Public, if you see it for what it is... a game! Nothing more.

It is not a sport. (yes I know all about World Cyber Games, but it is NOT a sport in terms of physical exersise)
And it is not a military simulation.

It is a game. It is for fun!

not many servers use cheating death as valve has their own anit-cheat program. hacking problems usually come in waves, say if a new cheat comes out it will take a couple days to a week for it to be detected by anti-cheat programs. and with the release of 1.6 the interp command no longer gives you any advantage....so there is no more config hacking. i guess it's not a sport in terms of physical activity...but i say it still beats curling. and i think you mean the CPL or Cal (Cyberathlete Ameteur League).

VAC does not work really well at all. The detection methods that it uses are not very good. There are always new cheats being released which are VAC-proofed until the next module comes out. While it is true that VAC has stopped many cheaters (The hacking problem is nowhere near as bad as in 1.3 where 75% of people would be hacking on a server), but it does not stop anybody that has the energy in themselves to check the websites which distribute cheats every so often.

Very true. I was refering to 1.5 and below so maybe I should have been clear. ALL the servers I use (west Australia) employ Cheating Death and are on the ball with updates.

And you are right about hacking being in waves. I notice that after a CD update, the servers empty for a few days, then people filter back in. I think this is partly due to people waiting to download the CD update, and partly due to people waiting for the hacks to get round CD.

I've played a little 1.6 but I find STEAM so very annoying as it is unstable and I dont like that fact that you cant choose when it updates. We get charged for exceeding download limits over here, so something like STEAM does not help AT ALL. :(

Shame, I really like the riot sheilds.

I hate it when people say that. The game is not full of hackers. I rarely see a hacker nowadays. And many of the so called "hackers" you label are actually people with skill. I would know. Ive been playing the game for 4 years now and yes the game has changed for the worse but it still is the #1 game in the world. People like you only whine that it is impossible for people to be able to get that good and quickly say they are hacking. That ****es me off.
