Are there any? I have decided to try some cross-stitch but I need a pattern - where is the best place to get one?

You could buy a kit which has the pattern, material and thread (and instructions) included. That is they way I do it. There is plenty of variety if you look around the different shops

I found the perfect thing to make - I have a friend who teaches me craft and I wanted to make her something for her birthday that she hasn't taught me and cross stitch is one of them. so i'm going to make her a card with a cross stitched picture of a cat - she loves cats!!! but i chose something quite simple because i've never done it before and because her birthday is on sunday so i dont have much time!!! Thanks for all the suggestions

BTW - did you know that there are programs out there that take any picture and create patterns for cross stitch from them? So you could cross-stitch your pet, your favorite flower, or even a family member!

Of you download the free software from pcstitch, you can buy really innexpensive patterns at patternsonline and print them out---they are less than $5.00 each, and can be printed in a variety of ways.

There's also a site called freepatterns that will let you download (via Adobe Acrobat, another free program) a lot of patterns for cross-stitch, plastic canvas, crochet, knitting, paperworking, and other things. I love this website!

Hehe....I know this a kinda late reply, but.... You could buy graph paper and print a picture onto that. That is what I am doing that way you can make your own patterns without having to have special equipment. Just a little thought.
