  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, I am a newbie - first post.
I have been madly working on baby afghans. Seems we have a new baby in our church every month or so. I have so many projects I would like to start, but my hook just keeps going with these afghans. I am also addicted to reading and I just haven't learned how to do both these things at the same time!!:sigh:

Welcome to the baby blanket club! ^_^ I have the same problem at times, but since it is all for a good cause (babies!) it is ok. Sometimes tho' you just have to say "I'm going to make something for me" or "something different". And that's ok too.

I currently have 3 projects on the hooks __A Crinoline Lady, a pink doily, and an alpaca/silk shrug for myself. I'm winging the design--basing it off a lacy ripple pattern that I have. So far it looks good!

To combine crocheting and reading either pick a mindless pattern or switch to books on tape :p

Lol. Books on tape...hmmm, that's an idea. I otta try that.

I have like 4 or 5 projects I'm working on. Unfortunately none of them are getting any closer to being done because I never think to take them with me, then I get board and use some of my Granny's yarn to start a new project...oh well.

Hi Everybody!

I'm working on a very simple navy afghan and a not so simple ;) sweater. It's called Coral Charisma Jacket and it is pictured on the front of May Crochet! magazine. Pics in my crochet projects thread.

Well, I finally did it! After a year or more of planning I finally put Grandma's shadowbox together!!! For those of you who don't know, or have forgotten, a couple of years ago my sister and dad decided to give me Grandma's crochet hooks. Since then I have been planning a display with the hooks, the babydoll outfit she made as well as a small baby pin she had dressed (she used to make them to give to new moms esp around Mother's Day). My sister also sent me a copy of a photo of Grandma for the box. The main holdups where--finding a shadowbox deep enough and how to display the hooks -esp. the one that is bent where she used to hold it! Well, DH took care of the first problem with a Christmas gift and today I made a stand out of airdry clay to hold some of the hooks. Just have to let it harden then I can put the top back on and hang the box! Looks soooooo cool.

Oooh!!! I would LOVE to start crocheting a baby blanket. Do you know where I could find a simple pattern. (very simple, please. I just learned how to crochet recently)

Here is an easy way to make a baby blanket. Just pick you favorite stitch pattern, a nice soft baby/sport yarn, a compatable hook and make a square 36 in. x 36 in.

One I recently used was a 3 + 2 stitch. Just make a chain using a multilple of 6 to the length to the length you want, then add 4 more chains.

1)work a V-st (1dc,1ch,1dc in the same stitch) into the 5th chain fromt he hook,*skip 2ch, 3dc in next stitch, skip 2 ch, V-st in next chain. repeat from * acrosss to last 5 chains, skip 2 ch 3 dc in next ch, sk 1 ch dc in last chain, turn

2) ch 3, *skip 2 sts, 3 dc in center dc of 3dc group, V-st in chain space of V-st, rep from * across ending with 1dc in turning chain, turn

3) ch 3 *V-st in Vst, 3dc in center of 3dc group Rep from * across, ending with 1 dc in turning chain.

Repeat rows 2 & 3 for length.
