Crocheters?

Had to take a break from the Christmas 'ghans for a couple of reasons. the horse 'ghan was driving me crazy!!!! I started working with the second orange and with the black it looked like Halloween threw up. So I picked a different pattern (a horse head) and am going to try it in buff and black for the horse (buskskin) on a light sage base trimmed in Aran. In the meantime I decided to make a prayer shawl for a friend at church who is going thru a tough time, medically. she keeps having "attacks" of pain or illness and the doctors can't figure out why. Only that it is real and not all in her head. I finished the shawl yesterday, just want to tumble it in the dryer with a towel. On Sunday I will take it in to Candy and/or Carrie -- they are going to help with the knot tying. Now I can get back to AJ's blanket -- wish me luck with the buskskin idea!

I love crocheting, but unfortunately most of the time I lack the money to buy yarn. A few years ago I sold a bunch of stuff and that was how I made money that year, but I don't know if I will have time to do that anymore.

Ok, I know I'm in the crocheters forum but do any of you know where I could get a knit pattern for a skull cap. It's those little hats the guys are wearing now. My GS asked me to make him one in his school colors and I can't crochet one using that yard it would drive me nuts. So I'm trying to find a knit pattern. I know some of you do both so if you can help I would appreciate it

The graphed portion of the buckskin afghan is finished!! Woo-hoo! I am currently down to 3 strands of yarn, from a high of about 12 - 14 at one point. (It got so tangled for awhile I lost count of them ) I will have to add a bit to each end because I goofed when I figured the length and it will be a wee bit short for the tall young lady it is for, but that shouldn't be a real big problem. Of course, I still have all those "lovely" ends to deal with. Luckily I remembered to drop them all on the backside of the 'ghan.

I've decided it's a good time to try crocheting. I was going to try knitting, but I think this will be easier. I crocheted as a youngster so I'm hoping the basics will come back to me, but I will be off to the craft store today to pick up some yarn, tools, and book. Does anyone have some tips for a newbie? My ideal project ultimately will be a throw, white and super soft and plush. I saw one in the Spiegel catalog and decided it would be much more fun and satisfying to make it myself!

Welcome! Hmmm, what kind of tips are you looking for? Suggestions on what you need to get started?

First, you'll need to choose an easy pattern. You might ask for help from a salesperson. Most stores have available in the yarn section some free patterns that you may be able to choose from.

The pattern will tell you what kind of yarn and needle size you need to get.

That will be a good start.
