  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Perhaps I was dreaming, but I thought I posted a link with the abreviation equivalents between the british system and the american system, but I do not seem to find it. It would have been a little later than this time last night. Oh, well... here's what I found after a quick google search for "crochet british". :D

two of the best links for term meanings for both. :D

I'm happy to see a lot of avid crocheters!
I taught myself to crochet from a book my first semester away at college am in the process of trying to learn to knit. I agree it can be rather relaxing and simple to do.
The internet is a great source of patterns and instructions (although finding good illistrations can be a bit trickier) I've found a lot of the patterns I've used online.

Crochet scarfs are easy to do. I did one in a V-stitch that I like and was a very simple pattern.
I generally stick with small items. Maybe one day I'll make a big blanket and not just a baby blanket.

Well i'd probably beable to get on with it if i could figure out how to start - part of the problem is alot of instructions are american not british which doesn't really help me being from britain - LOL

FYI
American vs English/Australian crochet terms....

US: SS = UK: SS
US: SC (single crochet) = UK: DC (double crochet)
US: DC = UK: TR (Treble)
US: TR = UK: DTR (Double Treble)
and so on....

I hope that helps :)

I enjoy crocheting. I am self-taught. I always wanted to learn, however, I am left handed and so is my older sister (15 years older). Our grandmother tried to teach my sis to crochet and apparently couldn't. When I came along and also was left handed, she said she wouldn't even attempt to teach me! Granny has been gone for many years now. I think she is smiling down on me now as I am learning more and more as I crochet.
