  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hogmanay Everyone!

After much trial and effort I have finally made the perfect bootie! I tried a few different things, and I ended up taking a bit from several patterns and making up a few stitches and it has come out really well. I finally finished the blanket for my SIL, both she and my sister thought that it would look good without the frilly boarder, and seeing as its her blanket I did not finish of the edging, oh well.

In other news, Dad has improved greatly, he is now in rehab and can get himself out of bed on his own and is walking around the ward unassisted. I have not recovered well from my operation, I was discharged from hospital several days before I should have been so I could go and see Dad and then just did not rest at all. Anyway, after that wonderful news that the tumor was benign I was told that maybe they removed the wrong tumor and I will have to have another gastroscopy for them to look and see which tumor is remaining. After looking at the pathology report it does look like they removed the wrong tumor. So back to hospital for me, which is fine, as long as I have my hooks and wool with me :). So if anyone has some spare prayer time, our family could really use some prayers.

Here is a picture of a baby's hat that I have made. I thought I would show it off.

So glad the projects (and your dad) are going/doing well pryia. Beautiful baby bonnet spinningwheelgirl!

My current "challenge" is making a scarf for a little boy in the school colors with his name in it. It's going good, but double stranded times 2 colors and things get wound up a lot.

Yes, they do. ^_^ But it has a really nice effect! Have you seen my crochet projects thread? The pink purse and the turtle hotpad are made with 2 strands held together.

HI  all. Haven't been in lately, have I?

Well, the Christmas 'ghans were delivered and well received  Now I am working on an Aran style sweater for my husband, while taking care of a new puppy (Micah)! Not the easiest thing I've done. I am still teaching him that yarn is not for chewing (along with jackets, pillows, blankets shoes....:sigh:) . Once the sweater is done I need to shop for yarn for 3 baby blankets--one due in April and a set of twins due in July. Then it is on to thread patterns. I'm hoping to start the wedding gift stash I have planned. Pretty things for the table that I can give to my kids, kid friends, nieces, nephews on their wedding day. I may need the first one in about a year and a half--one nephew proposed just before Christmas,

Will keep you in prayer. How could they make that big of a mistake?? Aren't you upset?? Boy our medical field is so advanced but then we get reminded that they are only human.

Hi, I love to crochet! I'm self-taught, though, so if a pattern isn't written for a complete dummy, sometimes I have trouble following it. Maybe next time I'll come here and borrow some smarts... :)
Heh... I need those sorts of patterns too! :) I'm only really starting out again.

EDIT: OOPS! Just replied to a post from way back in 2005. :sigh:

No, don't mind me... :D

Heh, Heh! That's okay.

Hey, I forgot to mention here that I finished my daisy baby afghan. I posted a pic in my Crochet Projects thread. There's a link in my sig if you're interested in seeing the finished project.

My friend loved it so I'm thrilled!

I wonder if we could revive this thread. That'd be nice.

I recently finished a crocheted hat for my daughter. It's a little small for her (still learning about tension and stitches). Currently making one for myself, as well as a big blanket.

I have to use 100% wool because the acrylic kinds irritate my skin.

I have 1 and 1/4 sleeves left on the Aran sweater to do. Thanks to the puppy I haven't been working as much as I usually do on these things.

Since my son has a birthday party in JC and that is where Michaels is (and I have a gift card!) I hope to do some yarn/thread shopping this Saturday.

Oh my! A thread about crocheting? Am in heaven ^_^

A couple of months ago there was a sudden need for them on eBay. It peaked one particulr day when the blankets that day - regular granny square blankets - were going for £250! That's over $500 US, I think? (Current exchange rates... muh?)

Is it seen as uncool in America, and elsewhere? In England it's still seen as an "elderly lady" thing to do. Baffling. It's judt the best thing ever!!

Back when I learned (I was in my teens) it wasn't really very "cool". Many people were surprised that somebody my age crocheted. But now a lot of younger girls are crocheting and knitting. It's made a huge comeback in the US. Therefore; the prize of yarn is high.

Yeah, that's what I'm noticing. Wool is expensive when you go through it as much as I was at first! I had to slow down how often I crocheted. Doesn't help that I have to use 100% wool to save my fingers.

100% wool?! Golly. That really is expensive.

Have you ever tried crocheting with Wendy Velvet Touch? Aaaargh!!

Also, does anyone else like chunky yarn the best?
