  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

See comments above. Based on what we see in actual biology and anatomy, the "intelligent" designer is a complete moron.

Corey it is comments such as yours that fuel the misunderstanding.

You think that intelligence could not decide to create by causing nature to evolve.

Notice the word causing in the previous statement.

That is what Science without God is lacking... cause

Science can also not give reason to life.

The why of this life can not be answered by Science.

Some of us are truly blessed for we are able to see Science and still KNOW God.

My prayers are to those who have not yet mastered this aspect of our existence.

Apples and oranges, Stormy. Science is "lacking" cause and reason because pure science is not concerned with cause and reason in the philosophical sense.

That's like saying that the dictionary is "lacking" my Uncle Bob's phone number. If I wanted the phone number, I'd look in a phone book, not a dictionary.

You assume that everything happens for a reason, and that God provides that reason, am I right? (correct me if I'm wrong)

Now, without getting into a debate of the truth or falsity of that belief, tell me why you believe in a "reason" for existence.

Before you answer:

There's no point answering that God, the Holy Spirit, or the Bible says so, because the question then becomes, why did you listen to them?

Must everything have a philosophical reason for being the way it is, or can some things "just happen?"

If some things can "just happen," then how do we know for certian what "just happened" and what has a meaning? (No points for claiming "The Holy Spirit tells us.)

Science does not concern itself with such philosophical issues. Does this mean the scientific point of view provides no meaning for life? Yes, but only because it does not bother to ask the question. Save it for the philosophers.

Nonsense. If we tried to answer a question like this by sweeping it under the carpet, you guys would be all over us to give you an answer. We have every right to demand from you, what you demand from us, an answer to the question.

The question is simple: If evolution is the effect, then what is the cause?

No reason to answer this one. God is more than able to defend Himself, He does not need my help. You do not mind if I keep a little bit of distance between you and me for my own protection do you? Because when all hell breaks loose I do not want to be anywhere near you.

Is it a part of Science to give us reason for life? That really is what theology is all about. I thought science was just to give us a observation or explaination on how life could have come into being. Or just to tell us more about the universe we live in.

On a clear night look to the sky. Notice the vastness of our Universe. It is beautiful... but in reality it is dead.

"Nothing" is so much more common and practical than "Something".

The law of nature will also confirm that without direction...

deterioration and chaos would be the norm.

But instead we are blessed with a fruitful planet that supports life abundantly.

The reason is God.

It is his plan that people use this time to learn. Not only of their Physical nature but also their Spiritual nature.

Be all that you can be. Grow in wisdom, intelligence and LOVE. :)

This is at best a reason for you to believe. But my reasons are far more advanced, miraculous and complicated.

answer to the question: random mutations during DNA replication

we sweep it under the carpet because it is irrelevant, it is not something science does.  it doesn't give people a reason to live or die.  it gives observations and facts.  you could just call a car worthless because it can't talk.  or you could use it for what it is meant to do.

a very irrelevant question i could pose to you would be, do you know my phone number?  no?  does that mean your connection with god is not strong enough to give you the answer?  does it mean god is not real/worthless/doesn't care?  obviously not.  knowing my telephone number has nothing to do with religion, same as trying to find reasons for living through science.

Wow, I think I may have a genuine convert to Iggism!

Drat, that means I probably need to come up with some rules now...

Of things I have had no explanation for, and later found an explanation, most have not been explained by "God did it".

Heh. The way I see it, God is that answer, whatever that answer might be. :)

God is that answer that replaces the unknown just as good as "the unknown" fills it. Equally viable positions. He is that truth, whatever it may be.

the way i see, it 'the unknown' has yet to be discovered and explained.  giving the answer as god kind of says... it's done, it's over, look no further because this is as far as the answer goes.

Allow me to demonstrate Poe's Law of Theology. If I don't, seesaw will:

Iggy the Magic Elf is that answer that replaces the unknown just as good as "God" fills it. Equally viable positions. Iggy is the truth, whatever it may be.
