I thought it was a good metaphor for 'evolution speak'.
I don't know what you mean by "evolution speak". If you're referring to the fact that there is specific terminology in science, that's no different than any other field. Part of the learning process is learning what that terminology means.
Learning the words doesn't mean you really understand what they mean.
Learning the words doesn't mean you really understand what they mean.
I never said otherwise. There is more to learning a subject than just memorizing definitions. It also involves learning concepts, ideas, methodologies, etc.
If one is willing to immerse themselves in a subject, a conceptual understanding of it can eventually emerge.
I'm not really sure where this discussion is going. Are you trying to understand how people learn?
Yes, biological evolution is complex scientific subject which takes serious intellectual effort to understand. It's headed where these discussions always go...nowhere.
Yep. Was the woman's nationality important to your story? What was the relevance of her being Indian? You find racism in my post??
Yep. Was the woman's nationality important to your story? What was the relevance of her being Indian?
Try this - remove the word "Indian" from your statement and see if it changes your point in any way. If the woman's race adds nothing pertinent we have (latent) racism.
Her being Indian is not relevant:The relevance was her heavy "Indian" dialect, which is uniquely hard (for me) to understand.
Her being Indian is not relevant:
1. A woman had an accent you could not understand. That is relevant.
2. There are many accents round the world you would struggle to understand. Your claim of uniqueness is hyperbole.
3. The woman was Indian. Given point 2 above, that fact is irrelevant.
The accent you couldn't understand in the video is not Indian, and I can guarantee you have not dealt with people with every "difficult" accent.I've dealt with people from many different countries. The Indian dialect is the only one that gives me problems.
Nope, you just chose to single it out because of your perception. That's racist. Therefore that ethnicity must be identified as the culprit.
The accent you couldn't understand in the video is not Indian.
Nope, you just chose to single it out for no good reason.
In regards to the video, you stated "I can only understand a few words he's saying", so my accusation stands and your claim of uniqueness is demonstrated to be hyperbole. And that's not the one I'm talking about.
Probably. Most of us have character flaws we are not aware of but which others can see.You seem to know things about me that I don't know.
Not really. The evidence is there whether you accept it or not. You'll need a bigger brush if you're going to paint me as a racist.
It doesn't. But if you think that's what the argument is you haven't followed the entire discussion.Personally I don't see how just noting a person's nationality makes someone racist.

It's interesting that there have been a few posters in these forums recently who are unaware of the racist overtones of their posts. They insist that, because they are unaware of those overtones, the overtones cannot be real. But that's not how racism, or any other form of discrimination, works.
It doesn't. But if you think that's what the argument is you haven't followed the entire discussion.
Neither do you. Racism is the effect of one's words or actions, not necessarily the intent.Racism requires malice. Do you see malice in my statements? Are you one who sees racists behind every tree? It seems to me that the accusation of racism is tossed around very carelessly these days.
Sorry, but you don't get to redefine racism.
