It's a cool idea, but not abiogenesis. The problem here is that they are going to introduce already made genes. Although it shows you can assemble a cell from parts in the lab, it doesn't tell us how DNA-directed protein synthesis arose in the first place. But not to worry!! There's enough other work out there so that this isn't a problem.

The point isn't to recreate abiogenesis, it's to create a new form of life and gain a deeper insight into pre-existing life such as ourselves. Exciting times.
