One thing that helped me when I finally managed to quit was considering myself dead to cigarettes. I never said I was quitting, or that I was trying. I had simply quit, and people who quit smoking don't smoke. That craving you're feeling is purely mental, as the physical addiction to nicotine only lasts about a month before the body re-regulates.

Right. One day at a time.
Sort of, though I will say when I finally got to the point where I had quit I really only had to struggle for a single day and then I was free. Most of the things that empower the addiction are lies, so it's a matter of replacing whatever the lie that is driving your addiction with the truth. Discover the psychology and it can be beaten, ignore it and things that supposedly help can make the cravings worse. Your craving is a lie, so rebuke it.

Go for a walk jog.. so something that takes your mind off it.
Second this sentiment. Remember that when you clean out one spirit, he goes and gets 7 of his brothers who are worse and returns. If he finds the house swept clean and empty, there is nothing to prevent him from taking residence again. So often finding ways to redirect the cravings to a positive is helpful.

HELP ME
That’s a hard place to be. I wish I had some trick to help you. I told my co-workers that if they caught me smoking they could key my car. Not a tactic I would readily recommend. :)

Hello. I stopped smoking in mid September 2021 and now im craving a smoke.

HELP ME
That happened to me three weeks after I stopped smoking (at the age of 19 when I received Christ as my Saviour). I was in a suburban train going to a church prayer meeting, and I saw that everyone in the carriage was smoking except me. By the time I got to my destination stop, my tongue was really hanging out! It was a real test for me, and I passed! I have not had a craving for a cigarette since, and now I am 74 years of age.

HELP ME

Speak out loud saying "I am not the type of person who smokes."
Or say "I don't Smoke."
Keep saying it for 10 minutes.
Doing the thing that you want to do often takes practice.
Just like any sport.

Now, you will be able to say it easily whenever you need to.

Saying it to the Lord is really effective. "The fervent effective prayer of a righteous man avails much."

Cravings never last more than 10 minutes at a time, so when a craving hits keep both your hands and your mind very busy and before you know it the craving will have subsided.

Keeping you in my prayers friend. .

What about craving helpers like nicotine gum?
Nicotine Gum is only good for the actual cessation phase. Once he no longer has a physical craving for nicotine anymore, all the gum can do is re-introduce one.

If anything he would be better off chewing normal gum.

That is True. "Faith" makes a huge difference in breaking old habits.

Also great advice. Physical motion helps to re-wire habits and form new ones. Something about "activity" that helps break down mental barriers.

There is only One who can and will break any addiction, and when faith is directed to Him on the basis of His promises, then it happens.

That may be your own personal experience. But when you get to know other former addicts, you may find they are not believers like you.
