Germany's spy agency thinks an accident in a Chinese lab likely led to the COVID-19 pandemic, media say. Evidence it collected allegedly indicates negligence at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The virus probably escaped from the Wuhan lab on

Option 1: There was a lab leak at a virus research facility that was conducting gain of function research on the exact virus that caused the pandemic,

or

Option 2: Some bats for sale at a wet market located approximately 400 meters away from the lab caused the pandemic.

Answer: No, there was really never any doubt.
