  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, today I was working on my citizenship packet and I went to BN S1 instead of Company S1 to certify my military service as honorable on immigration papers. Because this SPC at PSB told me that the trouble I got into this past weekend might have caused a delay in this certification and I was hesitating to go to company S1 and look at those angry faces who had waited 3 hours in formation for me. BN S1 called company and sgt at S1 asked for our 1SG to ask if I am in any kind of trouble. I was like "Oh great!" Well, he was in a meeting and sgt here asked if I have anything pending, any punishments, discharge, etc. Nope, I came out clean and got my honorably serving certification.

I am certainly hoping that mafia will be my last stop before I put on the square on the collar.

My name is SPC David Gleitz, it was almost SGT Gleitz until I made the same mistake as you while serving at Camp Casey as an infantryman in the 2-9 battalion. It was pretty recent, September '05 to be exact. I was recalled by our opperations SGM. I was a command driver, so he was basically our section sgt. My cell phone was dead so no one could get ahold of me, it was mid-day on a Sunday and I was in Seoul.

You might want to check your unit regs. Casey is a bit more strict due to the location. Even there, the reg was you couldn't go outside of a two hour recall area without a pass and if you don't have a working phone you have to call the CQ desk every two hours to check for any messages. You may not have been outside the pass limit area.

As far as the article 15, you might only get a company grade or summerize if they do push it through. That would mean 14 days restriction and extra duty for failure to report. They take that pretty serious over there due to the imminent threat to the north.

Even if you do get UCMJ, it won't follow you to your next unit. Even a feild grade can't follow you unless your BN CDR personally signs off and notifies them, this case isn't that serious. A counseling statement doesn't necessarily mean it's over, that's the first step to UCMJ.

If you do get an AR 15, don't let it get you down, it's easy to come back. I've had three. I made my rank back quickly the one time they actually took it. I am now serving at Ft Campbell and about to go to Air Assault school. Since there was no alcohol, drugs, or violence involved, it will not affect your military career at all other than beeing flagged for promotion and awards until your punishment is served. It all really amounts up to a glorified counceling statement as long as you don't consistently get AR 15s and you continue being a good soldier.

Good luck, and keep your head up.

Hey there, Gleitz, I hope you are doing fine and well and hope soon you get that E5. This thing didn't affect me after all, it was so long ago, I totally forgot about it. They gave me corrective training, I had to sign in at the company for 2 weeks, I was restricted to post. No UCMJ action was taken.

I was new in Korea back then, it has been more than 6 months since I came back from that 1 year tour. I like my new unit better also...

I am not sure how the whole thing with becoming a citizen works through the military (is 4 years enough or do you have to do more to get citizenship) I am pretty sure it takes more than a few AR-15s to get an OTH, I know they were handing them out pretty liberally at basic when I went through so they cant mean that much, but you definatly need to talk to JAG if the company S1 does not help you out. But when it comes time to re-up you need to get an WOCS or OCS contract if that is the direction you want to go, dont rely on the CO being in a good mood for something like that, you want WOCS stamped and in writing before you re-up (unless of course you have to reup to get your citizenship?). If you want WOCS having your bachlors degree (preferably in something technical) will get you the contract without any questions, so if you have the time you might want to start taking classes through the GI bill (not sure if you get that becasue you are doing the citizenship thing) but if you can I would strongly suggest it and if you dont have enough credits when your term is up and they wont give you a WOCS contract get out and go to school full time and go back to a recruiter when you have your BS and get a WOCS or OCS contract. Its really hard to see the forest through the trees sometimes, but looking at the bigger picture your CO or 1sts mood or whatever really isent that relavant as long as you dont get yourself an OTH discharge and from my research of UCMJ they have to catch you doing drugs or commiting a crime for an OTH to actually fly with JAG. Dont let the fear of your chain of command keep you from going to JAG.

hhhahahhha, ohhh man, reading this brought back the good ole memories. The stupid military always trying to scare its young, and then they wonder why people blow their head off when they threaten to ruin their lives over something as STUPID as this.

First off you never told us, were you REQUIRED to be reachable during these hours...If yes, well then your dumb for not being reachable, and most likely the most they woulda ever given you is a LOR. The art 15 they threaten if they see you looking at someone wrong.

This is exactly why I hate the armed services, and am so glad I got out when I did.

Also a Art 15 is not a career killer, a LOT of chiefs have them, now if your a officer, yea it will kill your career, because they are held to a diff standard.

My advice, get out when you can get in school and start making real bank, the military is good while your young but that is all :)

Good luck and glad to see all worked out, as it always does.
