Investigators are looking into the possibility that a Border Patrol agent who died in Texas over the weekend may have fallen down a 14-foot culvert, according to The Associated Press report.

The agent, Rogelio Martinez, died Sunday night after sustaining extensive injuries to his head and body. His partner, who also sustained a traumatic head injury, does not remember what happened, according to the AP.

The FBI is leading the investigation into the incident. The results of Martinez's autopsy are still undetermined.

According to the AP, Martinez was found at the bottom of the culvert, and authorities believe that he may have fallen.

Border patrol agents reportedly check culverts in the area routinely for drugs.

“We are waiting for the investigation to fully determine how those injuries happened,” Rush Carter, a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol supervisor for the region that includes the area where Martinez was killed, told the AP.

Authorities have not said how Martinez died or how his partner was injured. President Trump and some other lawmakers have suggested that the agents were attacked.

In a tweet on Sunday, Trump vowed to bring to justice those responsible for Martinez's death and renewed calls to build his proposed border wall.

According to the AP, a CBP supervisor said reports that the agents were attacked were only "speculation."

Will the wall mean that border patrol agents will lose their jobs?

Doesn't look like it -- thousands being hired.
Many good and bad people wish to get into the United States.
Good ones should apply -- there is a legal route.

Many say yes.
How could many honestly say yes when they don't know who killed him or even if he was killed on purpose?
Maybe he and his partner got in a fight and he fell.

Once again Trump is prematurely making comments that he shouldn't be. Now the investigators will be pressured by a political agenda of the Pres. DUMB, DUMB
The guy just can't keep his mouth shut when it's the professional thing to do.

...or the decent thing to do. Has Donald met a tragedy yet that couldn't be politicized?

(Actually, he has -- when there's a white guy pulling the trigger. But I'n sure that's just an unfortunate coincidence.)

Look, I have mixed feelings about a wall, due to the cost. However, the concept has been fairly successful in Israel, though they still have tunnels to deal with.

...and 1,500 fewer miles of boarder to fortify. Not to mention that the boarder wall would not effect the majority of illegal immigration nor drug trafficking but hey, bring on the largest eminent domain use ever and burn up that tax money, got to please the chanting base somehow.

What is the solution for US citizens who's homes will be on the south side of the wall? Right now there are serious issues where the fence does this.
Part of the cost should be that there is 24/7 emergency medical transportation, emergency fire protection, and transportation of water from the river for livestock and crops.

Honestly, with the partner also being injured not remembering what happened and, afaik, there not being a clear indication of some sort of weapon use, that was my thought.

Many say yes.

Possibly.

But what about the two security operatives who could have fallen to their deaths if the wall had already been built?

Who’s hyperthetical timeline has the fewest deaths?
