CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
Could anyone tell me if this is true?

No doubt much evil has been done in the name of following God, and much evil has been done in the name of not following God. The main thing is to follow God instead of trying to determine if God is right or wrong before obeying Him.

They would have to buy their contract out. A slave is someone that is in debt, they have to work to pay off their debt. Slaves have a money value, they are bought and sold. Their freedom can be bought for a price. This is an example of what it means to be a Christian. We were a slave to sin but Jesus paid the price so that the captive could be set free. Those who are not saved are still in bondage if they know it or not. In Israel slavery was a 7 year cycle. So at the end of 7 years they were to go free. That is what slavery started out to be in this country but something happened in the South and they did not set them free. In the same way sin can pass from generation to generation. The children could end up falling into the same sin that the parents were in bondage to. "I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected--even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me." Ex20:5

That pretty much reflects mans concept of justice. Not very many people seem to understand God's law and God's justice but someday they will. From the least to the greatest of them will know God is a God of absolute and perfect Justice. His scale is perfectly balanced. That is why Jesus had to die in our place. Either man has to die or God has to die. So God elected to die in our place for our sin. Even for you and for your sin He died. It is your choice if you want to accept His forgiveness or if you want to pay the price yourself for your sin and transgression. He says whosoever is willing let them come and receive His forgiveness and be set free from all sin and all bondage. Everyone is a part of whosoever. It all comes down to the choices we make in life and no one, not even God can make that choice for us. He waits to see what our choice will be. He does encourage us, even He will plead with us, hoping that we will make all the right choices because of His love for us and because it is His desire to give us the very best of all that HE has to give.First thing that came to mind after reading that post.

The seven year freedom cycle was only valid for the people of Israel. People from the nations could be enslaved for life.
Lev 25:44-46 As for your male and female slaves whom you may have -- you may acquire male and female slaves from the pagan nations that are around you. Then, too, it is out of the sons of the sojourners who live as aliens among you that you may gain acquisition, and out of their families who are with you, whom they will have produced in your land; they also may become your possession. You may even bequeath them to your sons after you, to receive as a possession; you can use them as permanent slaves. But in respect to your countrymen, the sons of Israel, you shall not rule with severity over one another.

And that was an evil thing, not a good thing, but it was allowed by the Lord because the Israelites would not tolerate a complete elimination of slavery. Just as they would not tolerate a complete elimination of polygamy.

Often parents sold their children into slavery simply because they did not have food to feed them. Of course there is no way you can relate to that living in the world of plenty as we do today. But what would be better to let them die from starvation or let them live as a servant in the hope that they found a good home where they were treated right?

If you gave the wage to the children very little of it would go back to the parents. Even here in american they only had a 7 years contract at first. But things got changed in the south. So they did not follow the Bible teaching on the subject.
Exodus 21:2
"If you buy a Hebrew servant, he is to serve you for six years. But in the seventh year, he shall go free, without paying anything.
Exodus 21:3
If he comes alone, he is to go free alone; but if he has a wife when he comes, she is to go with him.

If the government insists on running public schools,
then the curriculum should be decided by local tax
payers. Is there a problem with that?

Sorry if I've missed the context of this post - but it could be a problem for the children if the local taxpayers are half-wits. I'd prefer my child's education to be in the hands of educated professionals.

You think slavery was justified because kids would lose the money on their way home. Most people would call that bovine excrement, except not in so scientific of terms.

Which happened in the last 200 years when wages were available. Slavery has always been around. The bible doesn't say it's right or wrong, but it does say there are rules with slaves and you should not abuse them. "Masters, treat your bondservants justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven." Col. 4:1

We have slaves now; they are just called the dishwasher, the washing machine and oven. The culture doesn't need slaves now. Just like in the North during the Civil War they out grew slavery, but still needed them in the South. Do you know some that were set free in the South wanted to return to slavery instead of having to work for wages? It all depends on the owner. The owner now would be your boss. It's much better to have a decent boss then one who abuses his power. The bible also had the "Year of Jubilee" where all slaves were set free.
