A pet pig that was being tortured by an upstanding member of the community was shot and killed by police. A hungry person was trying to kill the pig for food with a pick ax and a .22. The horrible screams of the tortured animal and gunshots upset some construction workers who called 911. Cops arrested the gentleman harvesting the pig and put the animal out of its misery.

That's not exactly true according to your link. The owner of the pig asked the man to slaughter the pig for her but he severely botched the job.
