  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If it's OK with the Mods, I think this will be a neat experiment. Besides the theological arguments, I think technique will be interesting as well.

First, I assure you that I am quite content with my current NeoPagan tradition, and any other details should be in my profile. Would anyone care to attempt to convert me? Any religion or lack thereof is free to simultaneously participate.

Okay, but I need clarification from your profile first. How can you be a pagan and subsribe to Atheistic evolution? These are mutually exclusive. You should be Theistic evolution if pagan and atheistic evolution if atheist.

Please clarify. It's important to know where you're coming from if I'm to convert you.

And if it's okay with you, it won't be Christianity I convert you to, rather a form of Deism. You can do the rest.

I'm Pagan too and believe in atheistic evolution. There is no conflict at all. The term 'atheistic' here just means god(s) had no hand in it.

I happen to believe that the gods are simply a part of this world and the universe, and reside within it. You could also say they existed before it and transcend it, but still had no hand in the process, only taking particular interest after it's appearance.

While I believe what exists was created by gods, I believe evolution is a completely natural process. I hope it would be because if any god is guiding it, then it's doing a really poor job. I think "theistic evolution" is just another way of saying Intelligent Design, which I flatly reject.

Any religion is fine.

Now we wait for God to contact you ... and then you'll make your choice ... I pray it's the right one.

He knows where I live and is welcome to contact me any time.

Would anyone care to attempt to convert me?

No.

I don't trust rapid conversions. It would suggest that you'd be taking me on faith, or that there would be some rapid nonrational process, similar to falling love, messing with your brain. This would be a horrible way to come to a philosophy of life that stresses reason.

I'd rather persuade you, though this would probably take months or years, if it would happen at all. It would be for you to make the effort to investigate something new, not for me to try to ram something down your throat.

First before you seek conversion to something or other wouldn't it be proper for you to identify what or who you are? You claim to be a pagan and a "traditional" pagan at that, yet you identify yourself as a "witch", but state that you are a male. If you are not confused, the term should be "warlock", shouldn't it? Once you've established where you're coming from, get back to us and we'll see if we can determine what to tell you about where to go.

"Warlock" means "oathbreaker", it's not the male version of "witch." Just for the FYI. "Witch" derives from the Anglo-Saxon word for "wise man/woman", as well as the Anglo-Saxon verb meaning "to bend".

On Topic:

I, personally, want to know what you believe in specifically to know what I can convert you on. ;)

Males would still be called witches. "Warlock" is a pejorative typically meaning "oath breaker".

As you may be aware, there are many, many traditions under the pagan umbrella. In my little tag line under my name, "modern" is used to distinguish myself from ancient pagans; I am not a re constructionist. "Westernized" is another word for Americanized, sort of like adapting Gardner's Wicca. I also use "Witch" because I can't technically call myself Wiccan, but it's very similar.

So, awitch, do you feel you have found your true calling as a witch, or are you unsatisfied?
Mark

I'm satisfied, but I am a pluralist, so I can accept other people are happy with completely different religions. I think of this as an experiment to learn about those other religions, and possibly find out how/why people are happy with them.

If you already know the gospel about Jesus and his gift of salvation there is really no need of my trying to change your mind, God has given us all freewill to to decide.

Oh! That's a great idea for an experiment. If you are curious, you may PM me for a discussion of my views and why I am happy about them.

hmm... pluralism is uber, but yours is way to nice and friendly. try competitive pluralism: my view is best, and though your view exists, i hate it and want to destroy you.

now, i believe i was doing something before this thread so rudely grabbed my attention. ah, yes... *thumps heretics with bible*
ooh and for even more fun...
*displays bumper sticker from latest election 6 months late*

yeaaahhh so i'm off topic. carry on~

I respect you for that, I was quite the opposite a couple of years ago, I had no tollarance for anyone's beliefs, I hated the Human race, lol ... man I was a mess.

No, really I respect you attitude, and I hope you discover what make Christians happy. And I mean that, not in a "convert you" way but sincerily.
