Interesting post. Before I really got into my Christian faith, Richard Bach's book Illusions was a great source of peaceful spirituality. Multiple times in my life, old sci-fi stories have helped me though various points. To give an abbreviated piece of my life story, I came to dedicate my energy to God after pulling through a very difficult time in my life. I was victim of a disastrous high school break-up, one that left me so shocked that I lost most of my memories of the past, I couldn't imagine the future, and the present was just so much more pain than I knew how to deal with. It basically triggered a mental breakdown.
Yet those old sci-fi stories made me realize my scenario was actually kind of cool. A man crash-lands after an experimental time travel, in a world he knows nothing of. He cannot anticipate anything in the future, and the crash has obliterated his memories of the past. He is dazed in the present, unaware of any details of the world around him, but this much he knows: He must rebuild his life. Now. He cannot wait & let despair take its toll. He must make a choice, one that will prove invaluable in the course of this next stage of his life; what will he use to rebuild his very being?
The answer, in my life, was this. I've heard a lot about this God thing, let's give that a try.
