  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Leprosy in the Bible is a picture of sin, an no scientist on earth can cure that.

Only the Great Physician, aka the Son of God, can do that.

So you're saying that "leprosy" in the BIble was NOT leprosy like we know it today? You are saying it was METAPHORICAL?

How many more words in the Bible need to be CHANGED "ad hoc" in order to get around whatever point you are getting around this time?

Let's see:

1. Fowled bats
2. Embedded age
now
3. Sin Leprosy

At this rate there won't be much left to the literal truth of the Bible in a couple of years!

How is Leprosy Like Sin? - Genealogy and Jewish Heritage

Why is leprosy talked about so much in the Bible?

And:
1) Leprosy is a physical disease, while sin is a spiritual disease (Ezekiel 18:20).
2) Sin, like leprosy, is contagious (1 Corinthians 5:6-7).
3) Sin, like leprosy, is deceptive (Hebrews 3:12-13).
4) Sin, like leprosy, is not inherited but acquired (Ezekiel 18:20).
5) Sin, like leprosy, has a tendency to increase (James 1:!4-15).
6) Sin, like leprosy, is incurable, "except" for the power of God (Hebrews 9:22).

James C. Guy’s note: Leprosy was one of the most highly feared diseases in times of old, and still is in many places. The similarities to sin are interesting. If only sin were feared as much as leprosy!

We can yak our opinions back and forth, can't we?

SOURCE

What part of the original source by the IAU where they stated that the status of Pluto had been debated by the IAU for some two years prior to the vote did you not understand?

I am not yaking an opinion. I am providing original information from the original source, the IAU. You are the only one yaking an opinion, and an unsupported one at that.

So words in the BIble can have non-literal meaning????

Wow. Makes me wonder why "Embedded Age" had to be invented.

I am totally SHOCKED that literal meaning of words is so blithely glossed over in the Bible! I thought the Bible, especially the Old Testament, was exactly as God wrote it and later assisted in translating into 17th century English!

I am SHOCKED! SHOCKED!

Huh.

If yuu follow the Kübler-Ross model to completion, you'll be alright.

But to get stuck in any of the first four for any length of time ... well ... you'll require help.

AV, I don't care if you don't accept the down grade of Pluto to a "dwarf planet". The point is that you fail to accept the actual process in which it was decided.

You have claimed it was a last minute vote. That is false.
You have claimed most astronomers were excluded. That is false
You have claimed the vote was rigged. That is false.

Now that you know this, not from me, but the IAU itself, please do not bear false witness concerning that in the future.

BUT!!!... that would ruin AVET's carefully constructed paradigm, wherein science is inherently flawed, biased, corrupted, a tool misused by SATAN and is both dogmatic and changes with the flavor of the week at the same time!!! Please also remember that AVET accepts 95% of your so-called "science." :p

So can I ask where YOU got the magical key to know that certain parts of the Bible must be LITERALLY true and which parts can be read metaphorically?

That would REALLY help!

And what exactly is the scientific consensus about god that atheists don't agree with?

If anything, your graph shows that there is no popular consensus about god. But that's not what I asked, was it?

It's a relatively 'scientific' poll of the *overall* consensus of the human population on the topic of God. The fact that the subset of human "scientists" don't take much of a stand on the topic is irrelevant. It's still the *human* consensus on that topic. Atheism isn't even in the *double digits*!

And what empirical evidence are these 3% going against?

Besides the fact that humans have been reporting having a 'relationship' with something they call God since the dawn of written human civilization?

So is Zeus exactly the same thing as Odin as Krishna as is Yahweh as is Al'lah?

And if Al'lah is OK with putting worshippers of Odin to the sword for being infidels that's a legitimate "experience" of Al'lah? Is Al'lah is punishing himself for also being Odin and getting worshipers under the wrong name?

I'm surprised that this "god" that so many have had a "relationship" with since the dawn of time could be so schizophrenic.

Monotheism (the consensus) would suggest that there is but *one* God, and *many human religions*. Humans don't seem to agree 100 percent on anything, so why would you expect 100 percent agreement on the topic of God?

And if Al'lah is OK with putting worshippers of Odin to the sword for being infidels that's a legitimate "experience" of Al'lah? Is Al'lah is punishing himself for also being Odin and getting worshipers under the wrong name?

You're still confusing the concept of religion (and human action) with God's will.

I'm surprised that this "god" that so many have had a "relationship" with since the dawn of time could be so schizophrenic.

It's not that surprising to me since humans tend to believe whatever they feel like believing, with or without 'physical evidence' to support their conclusion.

You really took Pluto's demotion personally didn't you? :)
Not really.

It's jut that Pluto, Phlogiston, and Thalidomide* are such good examples of myopic science, I can't help but to keep harping on them.

Honorable mentions are:

  1. the Titanic
  2. the Deepwater Horizon
  3. the Hindenberg
  4. L'Aquila
  5. Chernobyl
  6. Three Mile Island
  7. Y2K
  8. abortion
  9. alcohol & tobacco
  10. the syzygy of 1988
  11. overpopulation/depletion of earth's resources
  12. Vioxx
  13. Tylenol capsules
  14. views on Israel I don't want to get into
  15. moral decay
  16. blasphemy, quenching the Spirit, grieving the Spirit
  17. anything else I can think of later
* Thalidomide goes a little beyond myopia. I have other reasons for why I think Thalidomide really went down that I really don't care to harp on on the Internet.

Oh, adding "alcohol and tobacco" is another good one. Didn't Jesus make wine? Was he contributing to "myopic science?" Should we start calling Jesus a Scientist? Wouldn't he be a greater Scientist than the Anti-Christ will be?

Yes.

Their inability to see what they were doing with peoples' consciences by changing Biblical terms to scientific ones.*

Example: babe in the womb → fetus or fetal tissue.

* I contend that neo-science's ultimate goal is to change every jot and tittle of the Bible into their language.
