Well, since Sabbath threads are still in, I figure this thread can serve to discuss how we keep the Sabbath.
I generally work Sunday-Friday. By the time that the Sabbath comes around on Friday, I am tired of working and really looking forward to a break, not only a break, but time that I don't have to feel guilty about not working and can leave all those concerns behind me.
My Friday night activities are generally of the following sort: play games (like Magic the Gathering) with friends, play games (often online), read a book, watch a movie, surf online, go to the gym (earlier in the evening).
Recently I have thought about restricting some of the things I do. Not because I think they are wrong on the Sabbath, but because I often end up staying up too late and than sleeping through all or part of church. I stay away from commercials/etc, but than I do in general.
Saturday morning (or afternoon) I wake up, if it is morning I go to church. If it is nice out I often go for a walk, I often spend time relaxing and surfing online/etc. Sometimes I spend time playing games/reading books/etc. I often read my Bible, especially if I didn't go to church.
Towards evening I often play games with people or online. Then when Sabbath is over I continue doing that or go to work, depending on what needs done and what I really want to do.
What is special about the Sabbath for me?
I don't have to work or worry about work. This is huge. I generally stay away from stores, and mostly only go to buy stuff that I need right then (like food/etc). I make sure that I spend some time seeking God, either in church or at home. I do pray many times most days, and read my Bible during the week sometimes. But it is nice to have a time to refocus and get myself ready to start a new week.
I have recently, at times, felt that some of what I read and watch as too violent/etc and not healthy for me. If I decide to pull stuff (and I already have not bought some books which I had considered buying) it will be a general pull, and not just a removal of it during the Sabbath hours.
I think that God could call others to keep the Sabbath differently, and might do the same for me in the future.
In the recent past, I would always go to church stuff if it was available after church. I was invovled in a street ministry, and thought it was rewarding for me, even though I am not sure how many people I reached. However, that sort of died down a bit as the leader left, and the new leader I disagree with and I don't know if it is right, but I haven't started being a part of it again.
I guess if I had any SDA friends that I did stuff with, other than greeting them in church (or any Christian friends in general, if I had Christian friends of other denominations I would probably attend church with them at times), I would do other stuff than games/etc on Friday nights/Saturday afternoons.
A few years ago, I rarely went to church at all, but still didn't work or shop and made sure to read my Bible some on the Sabbath. (at that time I rarely read my Bible otherwise)
