• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In my parish one has a choice; confess face to face (which is the norm) or from behind a screen. Is such a choice available to Orthodox Christians?
Nope. Our spiritual fathers sit down with us on the pew at the front of the church (or in the RO, they stand in front of the icon of Christ) facing the icon of Christ while we confess. My priest is there for support, guidance, and love. It's very comforting. :) Now that we've moved away, it's a bit harder, though.

We are so fortunate that a wonderful family makes room for me and my daughter in their guest house. We travels a good distance and the trip back home and then again to the service would be both expensive and hard on the child. Especially with the approaching season.
We have been received so warmly and my priest has been very patient and accommodating.

I don't know what I would be without the priests that God has given me over the almost 13 years I've been Orthodox (Holy Saturday will be 13 years). I always know that I can be totally honest with them and he will still love me in spite of my sins and will try to help me overcome them. They have helped me to learn to trust again and to be vulnerable, which I refused to be before becoming Orthodox.

That's wonderful, Mama. You are blessed. :)
