Building theaters? I have not heard of it myself. (not that you were talking to me)
The church I attended when The Passion of the Christ was released invited everyone to come see it together, and they helped buy tickets for anyone who couldn't afford to go, and we all sat together. We met and talked about it later.
I only saw the movie once. What surprised me (not that I'm blaming people as it may have just been their custom and they didn't mean anything bad by it) but I was surprised to see other people buying snacks and so on to eat while watching. I wonder if they regretted that. I couldn't have eaten during that film, or for a while after.
Now I've been in a number of churches that met in closed-down theaters. I guess they are already in a good position if any chose to screen films, but I never saw any do that.
