Not to derail this thread, but talking about that.

Seems many, many pastors (esp. mega churches) are buying full screens within theaters for their congregation. I pray it represents the faith accurately.

Have you heard anything abt. it?

These verses are dealing with how we deal with other Christians. We are called to forgive each other as the Lord forgives us. This is talking about two Christians who are in conflict should deal with each other.

But what comes to mind is, if v. 18 has to do with forgiving our brothers and sisters when they wrong us ... it would seem to be saying if we interpret it that way, that if we fail to forgive them, God also won't forgive them? Is that what you mean? That would give us the power to hold someone's against them in God's eyes, out of spite. (Which of course would hurt us as well, since we pray to be forgiven in the same way that we forgive.) But I wonder if someone who chooses to hold against me, perhaps even an unbeliever, will that prevent me from being able to be forgiven by God? That doesn't sound right?

First we go to that brother or sister in private (not gossip or talk to others about it) and show him his fault/sin/indiscretion. This example is fairly clear that it is a doctrinal issue, like your brother or sister has strayed from the Word/faith. You point out their flawed doctrine and try to convince them of the truth.

If the brother or sister will still not listen, then a small group of two or three should talk to them to try to convince them of the error. That the other person is a witness to the situation, not a he said/she said....

Then the next step is the church to try to bring that person back into faith/scripture.

I agree with the prescribed process, but what is it that leads you to believe it involves a doctrinal issue? The thing is, if it is a doctrinal issue, then what would "binding and loosing" have to do with it? Surely not "binding" them in a false doctrine they refuse to recant? I apologize, but I'm having a hard time finding a way to make sense of it in that way?

So in my opinion this is not about confessing ones sin, unless it would be to ask for forgiveness from a person/people.

Hmmmmm. I appreciate another perspective, but it's hard for me to see it in the way you describe. If you'd care to expand on that, I'd gladly hear your point of view. Thanks very much for your post, either way.

This is common. Many denoms believe theatres are bad places to go but which watch movies IF they are in their building or they rent out the space. Sadly this is the same reason may Christians won't go into a pub to eat even though it is cheap and good food.
I have only seen the trailers on TV.

Building theaters? I have not heard of it myself. (not that you were talking to me)

The church I attended when The Passion of the Christ was released invited everyone to come see it together, and they helped buy tickets for anyone who couldn't afford to go, and we all sat together. We met and talked about it later.

I only saw the movie once. What surprised me (not that I'm blaming people as it may have just been their custom and they didn't mean anything bad by it) but I was surprised to see other people buying snacks and so on to eat while watching. I wonder if they regretted that. I couldn't have eaten during that film, or for a while after.

Now I've been in a number of churches that met in closed-down theaters. I guess they are already in a good position if any chose to screen films, but I never saw any do that.

This means that I now have several KJV bibles. I am not a KJV only chap. And sadly these KJVs do not contain the complete 73 books of the canonical scriptures. Nevertheless I use them when chatting in GT for verifying what some of my interlocutors will see if they check the references and quotes I supply in many of my posts.

This means that I now have several KJV bibles. I am not a KJV only chap. And sadly these KJVs do not contain the complete 73 books of the canonical scriptures. Nevertheless I use them when chatting in GT for verifying what some of my interlocutors will see if they check the references and quotes I supply in many of my posts.

Hmmm, I have so MANY Bibles. And not enough bookshelf, but I can't bring myself to rehome them.

I used to collect translations, back before it was easy to find so many online. The Amplified used to be particularly unavailable, and I think I have at least 3. One has fallen apart. But I like so many of the translations, and some are still not easily available. Problem is, tiny print is getting hard to read, so I go online anyway.

Those and my various commentaries, etc. Nearly everything is (I believe) from a Baptist or similar viewpoint anyway, and I stopped using them a long time ago.

But I surely do have at least 5 or 6 KJV Bibles as well.

Out of all those Bibles, I don't think any of them has more than the 66 books. Though I think one somewhere has an extended version of Daniel, as I know I read something more in there than I am used to finding.

I confess to being a general Bible and Christian book hoarder, lol.

I really don't know how my husband would react to many things about Orthodoxy, but at least the beards might appeal to him. He has had a beard since I have known him, though he keeps it relatively short.

The KJV I confessed to receiving in the mail has 11.25 point font printing. It's fairly easy on the eye. It is called "Personal Size Giant Print Reference King James Version" and the font pleases me

That's the beauty of reading Bible online or eVersions. You can adjust the font size!

As a church social function, no problem to have community standards. My issue is telling people they can't go to the same movie on their own. That is slightly hypocritical IMO.

Yes, but you need a computer of some kind to read an adjustable font bible. I like printed bibles, they don't need electricity for me to read them.
