CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS OF SALVATION
This thread directly relates to the previous threads concerning: “Faith and Salvation” and “Born Again”.
Beside General Slogans such us: “Believe and be saved”, “We saved by the Mercy of GOD”, “Salvation is the free Gift”, “We saved by the name of Christ”, “Saved through the Grace of Christ”, and others like it, I presenting here just a few out of many Condition and Requirement of Salvation, all of which belong to the General Slogans and Terms mentioned above, on which alone some people based their own believe, hope, and salvation by ignoring their Conditions and Requirements.

Righteousness based on the Word of GOD is required for the Salvation of the soul.
Ezekiel 14.13-20
13."Mortal, when a land sins against Me by acting faithlessly, and I stretch out my hand against it and break its staff of bread and send famine upon it, and cut off from it human beings and animals,
14.even if Noah, Daniel, and Job, these three were in it, they would save only their own lives by their righteousness, says the Lord GOD.
15.If I send wild animals through the land to ravage it, so that it is made desolate and no one may pass through because of the animals,
16.even if these three men were in it, as I live says the Lord GOD, they would save neither sons, nor daughters, they alone would be saved, but the land would be desolate.
17.Or if I bring a sword pass through the land, and cut off human from it,
18.though these three men were in it, as I live says the Lord GOD, they would save neither sons, nor daughters, but they alone would be saved.
19.Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out My wrath upon it with blood, to cut off humans and animals from it,
20.even if Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live says the Lord GOD, they would save only their own lives by their righteousness.

Fear of the Lord based on the Word of GOD is required for the Salvation of the soul.

Psalms 85.9 (of Asaph)
9.Surely His salvation is at hand for those who fear Him that His glory may dwell in our land.

To Love the Lord by obeying Him is required for the Salvation of the soul.

Psalms 91.14
14.”Those who love Me I will deliver. I will protect those who know My name.

Maintain Justice and do what is Right, keep the Sabbath, and refrain from doing Evil, all these are required for the Salvation of the soul.

Isaiah 56.1-2
1.Thus says the Lord: Maintain Justice and do what is Right, soon My salvation will come and My deliverance be revealed.
2.Happy is the mortal who does this, the one who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath, not profaning it, and refrains from doing any Evil.

Seek the Lord by studying and obeying His Commandments, seek His Righteousness, and seek own humility, in order to avoid the wrath of the Lord and be saved.

Zephaniah 2.3
3.Seek the Lord all you humble of the land who do His commands, seek righteousness, seek humility, perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the Lord's wrath.

When such time comes to us to abandon our most precious things in our life, we have to deny ourselves and our life completely in order to obtain Salvation.

Matthew 19.29
29.”And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for My name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold, and will inherit eternal life

Luke 18.29-30
29.And He said to them, “Truly I tell you, there is no one who was left house or wife or brother or parents or children for the sake of the Kingdom of GOD,
30.who will not get back very much more in this age and in the age to come, eternal life

Concerning sexual immorality of all sorts.

First Corinthians 5.1.5
1.It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of kind that is not found even among pagans, a man is living with his father’s wife.
5.you are to hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit mat be saved in the day of the Lord.

Concerning teaching others.

First Timothy 4.16
16.Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching, continue in these things, in doing this you will save both, yourself and your hearers.

Obedience to GOD as one of the important requirements of Salvation.

To Hebrews 5.9
9.and having been made perfect He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him,

Remove wickedness and become meek according to the Word of GOD, and be saved.

James 1.21
21.Therefore, rid yourselves of all sordidness and rank growth of wickedness, and welcome with meekness the implanted word that has the power to save your souls.

Interesting topic, but if I may offer a suggestion. I don't read posts that have many various and seemingly random fonts, indentions, capitalizations, alignments, underlines, bolds, itallics, and colors all through the post. It hurts the eyes and I don't want to spend lots of time deciphering the intent behind the different patterns. I know I'm not the only one too.

My suggestion is just to write normally. People ususally get the point you're making.

Great post and might very well awaken a few. Please do not allow others, because of personal prejudice, to change the intelligent and easy to read and understand method of posting. I will say that if one can find nothing better to discuss than you use of educated formatting, I'll be surprised. I agree with what you seek to teach here and I am usually attacked, some times personally for recognizing these same truths in scripture.

God Bless, my brother.

Personal prejudice? Why is it you think you know my motives?

It was simply a suggestion about the method of posting; not about the validity of the content.

Do you normally accuse people of things without warrant or is this something new?

I am sorry Th1bill, I do not mean to make reading of my post uncomfortable, but I will take your suggestion to account and will use less fonts and other things.

I use them in order to separate certain themes, subjects, and meanings from one another, and to tell you truth no one ever complained about despite the fact that I do it for a while and on three different forums.

I also noticed that in my posts sometimes the size of the font appeared less or larger when I originally used. Perhaps it happen because I use old ms word processor (2003) to write my posts, which when finished I copy and paste them into the forum’s page, and it seems that the formatting of my word processor does not match the formatting of the forums page.

Anyway, I will try to reduce those special effects as you suggested.

I feel I must ask, are these requirements for salvation or rather the fruits thereof? If these are requirements—as in prerequisites for salvation—then no one will be saved, as "None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. There is no fear of God before their eyes" (Romans 3:10, 11, & 18). We all will fail at the very beginning of your requirements. Yes, every true believer must no doubt possess many of these attributes, but they can in no way possess them before salvation. It is biblically impossible. These attributes must come from and grow out of faith given by God. We are saved by grace through faith, both being gifts from God.

Hi Taylor

You wrote:

There is no fear of God before their eyes" (Romans 3:10, 11, & 18). We all will fail at the very beginning of your requirements. Yes, every true believer must no doubt possess many of these attributes, but they can in no way possess them before salvation. It is biblically impossible. Yes, all these Requirements, and much more which I did not mentioned in my thread, are the prerequisites for strong faith in GOD and for salvation, because they are all derive from the Commandments and Statutes of GOD given to us though Jesus Christ.

You wrote:
"None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God.” And, “There is no fear of God before their eyes" (Romans 3:10, 11, & 18).

These words relate to the general population and not to particular individuals. You took General Term and applied it to all, which is not right thing to do. Therefore, I can tell you that I seek GOD always, and may be I am not so righteous as I would like to be, and may be I do not understand everything in the Word of GOD (Bible) as I wish, but definitely I am not one of those who forsake GOD and did not acknowledged Him.

You wrote:
“Yes, every true believer must no doubt possess many of these attributes, but they can in no way possess them before salvation.”

If salvation given before Requirements for salvation, then entire Word of GOD can be discarded and useless. Because why bother to follow and obey the Word of GOD if salvation already has been given to you for nothing, and you are already saved, it does not make any sense!

Would you drive car without learning how to drive it? Would you appreciate the book without reading it? Would you achieve high professional level without learning it? Would you be awarded with anything without learning how to obtain it? And how you can have salvation without learning how to receive it?

This is true that no one can be fully righteous, fully good, fully faithful, fully dedicated, fully without sins, and completely perfect, because only GOD is perfect and complete in everything, and He knows all our weaknesses and vulnerabilities.

And we as Christians can achieve only a certain level of perfection in righteousness, in goodness, in faith, in dedication, in love, in good works, in resisting temptations, and in resisting of all sorts of evil and sins, by using Commandments and Statutes of GOD as our Guide and as our Text Book to salvation.

So the point is that we can only achieve a certain level of perfection in Christ, according to our own faith in Him and our own effort.

Matthew 19.21-22 (NRSV)
21.Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and gave the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in Heaven, then come, follow Me.” 22.When the young man heard this word, he went away grieving, he had many possessions.

Matthew 19.24-26
24.Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for someone who is rich to enter the Kingdom of GOD.”
25.When the disciples heard this they were greatly astounded and said, “Then who can be saved?”
26.But Jesus looked at them and said, “For mortals it is impossible, but for GOD all things are possible.”

What its means, “but for GOD all things possible.”? It means that GOD can help us to overcome something what otherwise would be impossible to us to overcome on our own.

If you look closely on this conversation between Jesus and a young rich man, you will notice one interesting thing. When young man asked Jesus:

Matthew 19.16-20
16.Then someone came to Him and said, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have Eternal Life

Jesus answered him and said to him to observe and obey all the Spiritual Commandments of the Law. By this Jesus Himself declared that Requirements of Salvation come first by obeying the Statutes and Commandments of GOD, and only then you will be saved. So you assumption that salvation should come first is wrong.

17.And He said to him, “Why do you ask Me about what is good? There is only One Who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
18.He said to Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness.
19.Honor you father and mother, also you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

20.The young man said to Him, “I have kept all these, what do I still lack

Notice another important thing here, that when young man said these words to Jesus that he kept all these commandments, Jesus accepted His words without any doubt, without any questions, without any suspicion, and without any rebuke, because Jesus knew that the young man said truth.
And by accepting the young man’s word Jesus revealed by this that indeed young man saved, because he obeyed the Law of GOD.
So and in this case the obedience to the Law comes first, and then from the obedience to Commandments of GOD comes strong faith, and then the salvation as result of it.

But Jesus pushed young man even further, beside the fact that the young man already saved on the basis of Law which he obeyed and observed, Jesus proposed to him to achieve even higher perfection in his dedication and faith in GOD, and offered to him to sell all his possessions and to follow Him. And this presents to us another issue of the Hierarchy in Heaven, but this is a different subject.

21.Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and gave the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in Heaven, then come, follow Me.” 22.When the young man heard this word, he went away grieving, he had many possessions.

Of course the response of the disciples was obvious, “Then who can be saved?”

And Jesus answered, “For mortals it is impossible, but for GOD all things are possible.”

This means that if GOD desires perfecting the young man, or anyone else for that matter to a higher standard and level of perfection, GOD certainly would do it, and would give extraordinary power and will to anyone to overcome such impossible task for human beings as to sell everything and follow the Christ.
And just I indicated above, this is not the issue of salvation, the issue of salvation with the young man we already passed, but this is the issue of the Hierarchy in Heaven, designed to achieve much more higher, and perfect, and greater Spiritual level in the Kingdom of GOD.

We all know that GOD can do everything, and He can turn the most dreadful sinner into a saint if He wants it, and some of such examples we can see in the Bible, and the Paul perhaps the best example of it. Indeed, Apostle Paul had done so much with the help of the Holy Spirit, so it is hard to find any other man who ever done so much in the name of Jesus Christ as Paul did. If not for the Holy Spirit of Christ, Paul would persecute Christians to the end of his life. So and in this case the Lord GOD also done impossible thing for a human being.

You also wrote:
“These attributes must come from and grow out of faith given by God. We are saved by grace through faith, both being gifts from God.”

Again, you use General Terms, but GOD do not give faith for nothing as a free gift, this is wrong assumption based on the General Terms. Read writings of Paul about Abraham, about Deeds and Faith, and about all the Conditions what applied righteousness, faith, and salvation without skipping them, and then you will understand where all these qualities come from.

You wrote that we saved by Grace through faith, and both being the gifts of GOD, you are totally right about that.

But where is Grace comes from? Is it not from the Word of GOD the Bible? If not for the Bible we would not even know that GOD exists. But the Grace of GOD revealed to us from His Statutes and Commandments, and because His Statutes and His Commandments are Graceful, and so the GOD Who introduced them to us also Graceful, and who obeying and observing His Graceful Commandments of the Graceful GOD, also becomes graceful.

Our faith comes from the learning of the Graceful Statutes and Commandments of GOD, and more we learning them, the better our faith in GOD become.

And the Statutes of GOD, and His Grace, and our Faith, and Forgiveness of sins, and the Salvation of our souls, all are Free Gifts of GOD to us, which are based on our own individual choice, motivation, and effort to have them.

Award, no matter what kind it may be, can be considered as a Free Gift, but does not given to everybody, but only to those who worked for it and complete the competition. And Paul wrote about it by comparing us to the athletes. So, those who will cross the finish line in competition to Heaven, surely will receive their free gift of grace, faith, forgiveness, and salvation, but not for doing nothing.

Alex2165,

I want to share with you how I interpret the Lord’s encounter with the young rich man. First of all, Jesus is setting up the point that you can follow the rules of the Law perfectly and yet still fall short based on the sinful condition of your heart. It is impossible for men to obtain eternal life by their own merit. But thanks be to the Lord, “With God all things are possible”!

Like the young rich man, we may find ourselves checking all the boxes as we work ourselves down the list of righteousness. And as Jesus felt love and compassion for the young rich man (Mark 10:21) he has compassion for us—and patience, too—and helps us to realize that by our own efforts it is impossible to please God. Again, we may praise God because with him all things are possible!

It is possible to obtain eternal life because of the work that Christ has done on our behalf. He paid the price for sin (the wages of sin is death, Rom. 6:23a) by dying on the cross. That is applied to everyone who believes and trusts in His work (but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord, Rom. 6:23b).

You said, “If God desires perfecting the young man, or anyone else for that matter to a higher standard and level of perfection, GOD certainly would do it…” My friend, God most certainly desires this for our lives, “You shall be holy, for I AM holy” (1 Peter 1:16). As he has given us Christ for salvation, he has given us his Spirit for sanctification, that is, we are born again by his own Spirit and he works in us to cleanse us from unrighteousness (John 3:5; 2 Thess. 2:13).

In your response to Taylor Sexton, I believe you made a mess of the doctrine of salvation by limiting God’s precious word with your “General Terms” theology. You direct us to the writings of Paul and to the example of Abraham, but these only solidify the biblical teaching that faith, grace, and salvation are given freely by God. How did Abraham obtain righteousness? He believed God’s word (Rom. 4:1-5). What did Paul say was the accommodations for our own efforts to please God? Death (Rom. 6:23). Therefore, we read in the Scriptures of the one and only Condition for salvation and righteousness: Faith (Eph. 2:8-9). Our faith results in righteousness (Rom. 10:10).

There is much more to write about righteousness, specifically with how the commands and statutes of the Bible correspond to it. However, the foundation of the teaching on righteousness must first be set: our righteousness is as filthy rags and therefore we must obtain a righteousness that is not our own. We do that in the same way Abraham did…we believe in the promise of salvation that God has freely given in Christ.

Abraham received righteousness according to his faith in GOD and the deed that he had made for the Lord being ready to sacrifice his only son. Above all, were has been no Law during the time of Abraham, so without any Law GOD reckoned to Abraham righteousness according to his faith in GOD and his deed for GOD.

Faith in GOD and Godly deeds in the name of GOD go always together and cannot be separated.

GOD did not consider Abraham righteous before he the offering of his son to GOD, and when GOD told Abraham to travel through the land, and did not make him righteous out of nothing throughout all this time.

But only when Abraham had faith in Him which is resulted in willingness to sacrifice his only son for his GOD, only when Abraham became righteous. So by Faith and by the readiness to sacrificing his son, Abraham became righteous in the eyes of GOD, and received eternal promises of GOD according to his faith and deed, and were no any kind of Law existed at that time.

But we are all now under the Law of Christ, under His Gospel, which have all the necessary for us Spiritual Commandments and Statutes to follow and to obey, and this is means that we are under the Grace of GOD, under His Spiritual Statutes and Commandments.

And now our own faith, righteousness, and salvation derives from the Spiritual Statutes and Commandments of GOD, presented to us as a free gift in Jesus Christ.

Free means that we not have to pay with our own lives to be saved, Jesus already paid our price of death on the cross, and because of Paul and others called Salvation as a free gift.

General Terminology that I mentioned in my post is not my doctrine, it is a definition of Headlines, Tittles, Banners, and Headings that describing certain statement in general.

For example, every book has its name on the front of its cover, but by the name alone you cannot tell the exact context of the story of the book, you actually have to read the book in order to find out what kind of story the book contains.

Same thing applies and to all Headlines, Tittles, Banners, and Headings of the statements and passages of the Bible, which indicating only a certain theme, or subjects, or issue of the particular statement in General Terms, as a Summary of its context.

You on the other hand presented to me in your post only those Headlines, Tittles, Banners, and Headings of the general statements, and on the basis of them you created for yourself your own doctrines by which you believe you are on the right track to GOD.

I on the other hand do not presenting the Headlines, Tittles, Banners, and Headings of the general statements, or issues, or subjects, but I presenting their context, their Conditions and their Regulations, and the true meaning of their Context, all of which I considered much more important than all the Headlines, Tittles, Banners, and Headings of the statements of the Bible.

If as you suggested, GOD freely gives salvation in Christ to all without any conditions, then it means that everybody saved even before they knew it, and every so called “Christian” who confessed Jesus Christ is saved automatically according to you, and no worries, condition, regulation, and obligation on our part are applied to such action of GOD.

Also it means that no so called believer in Christ will end up in hell no matter what kind of things he or she do in their life, because again according to you, GOD freely gives salvation in Christ to everyone who claimed that he or she believes in Him.

And by such statement you ignoring the essence of salvation purposely, in order to cover yourself with the Headline of it, excusing yourself from all the Obligation, Conditions, and Requirements what come with Salvation as its core context and meaning.

So for this purpose please read only few statements out of many which is you purposely ignoring concerning Salvation in order to justify your own theory concerning this subject.

Psalms 50.15.23
23.Those who bring thanksgiving as their sacrifice honor Me, to those who go the right way I will show the salvation of GOD."

Psalms 85.9 (of Asaph)
9.Surely His salvation is at hand for those who fear Him that His glory may dwell in our land.

Psalms 91.14
14.”Those who love Me I will deliver. I will protect those who know My name.

Matthew 19.29
29.And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for My name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold, and will inherit Eternal Life.

Luke 9.24
24.For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for My sake will save it.

Luke 18.29-30
29.And He said to them, “Truly I tell you, there is no one who was left house or wife or brother or parents or children for the sake of the Kingdom of GOD,
30.who will not get back very much more in this age and in the age to come, eternal life

Luke 21.16-19.28

16.You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, by relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death.
17.You will be hated by all because of My name.
18.But not a hair of your head will perish.
19.By your endurance you will gain your souls.

First Peter 4.17-18
17.The time has come for judgment to begin with the household of GOD, if it begins with us, what will be the end for those who do not obey the Gospel of GOD?
18.And: ‘If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinners?’ (Proverbs 11.31)

You shall understand that the Free Gift of Salvation is not given to as a birthday present, but under Free Gift of Salvation means that the Salvation has not been given to us but presented to us in Jesus Christ, including righteousness, and faith, and like everything else in Jesus Christ though His Commandments.

And Salvation revealed itself to us in His Spiritual Commandments and in His Good Works as His Grace, and as the example to follow, and as the road to our Salvation.

You have to earn your Salvation by following all the Commandments, Statutes, and Good Works of Jesus Christ, and apply all the Conditions and Requirements of the General Terms mentioned above in you life, and that is the our Obligations before GOD in order to receive our Salvation presented to us as a free gift in Jesus Christ.

And if we take this free gift of Jesus’ Commandments and His Deeds and do the same, then we will receive Salvation according to His Grace, which is His Commandments and righteous Deeds.

So the point is that the Salvation is not given for nothing as a free gift, but presented to us in Christ to take it, according to the passages mentioned above, which are only few out of many.

If you read my first post you will see that while the gift of God is given freely to us through the work of Jesus Christ, it is only applied to those who believe in him; that is to say, have faith in him. That is the only condition for salvation. It is not universally applied but universally available.

The works we do, such as following his statutes, are from a heart of gratitude and worship. Read Ephesians 2:8-10...

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is a gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

Therefore, we work from our salvation, not for our salvation. In speaking of works, James said, "Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do...so faith without works is dead." (James 2:18 & 26).

So there is a condition for receiving the gift of salvation: faith. And faith is validated by righteous living. I never said that a person could say a magic prayer or believe in God like the tooth fairy. Our faith is proven by the work we do.

Amen to these words.

This revealed that we are both on the same wave and there is no difference in our opinions concerning this issue.

GOD bless you.

I guess I am confused because you had written,

"You have to earn your Salvation by following all the Commandments, Statutes, and Good Works of Jesus Christ, and apply all the Conditions and Requirements of the General Terms mentioned above in you life, and that is the our Obligations before GOD in order to receive our Salvation[bless and do not curse]presented[bless and do not curse]to us as a free gift in Jesus Christ."

But now are we in agreement with the Scriptures that it is faith in the work of Christ that saves us? And our works demonstrate the genuiness of our faith? If so, we are indeed on the same page!

Yes exactly, as you wrote, "it is faith in the work of Christ that saves us? And our works demonstrate the genuiness of our faith?"

Faith in GOD and the Work according to Faith have to be derive from something, and this something is the the Word of GOD our Bible, because Faith and Works cannot derive out of nothing.

From the knowledge of the Bible we receive our Faith and our Works of our Faith, but without Word of GOD we even would not know about existence of GOD, unless He will present Himself to us as He did to Abraham.

But He is too Holy to do that, and the humanity is too corrupted and evil, and because of it GOD presented Himself to us though His Word the Bible, and from His Word we are receiving the Faith in Him and the Works according to our Faith.

And this is why I also paying a special attention to the context and the essence of the General Terms and not to the General Terms themselves, because behind every General Term, Headline, and the Banner, exist Conditions, Regulations, and Obligations defining its General Headline.
