  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey everybody im new to this site! I need help concerning my own salvation.
I grew up around Christianity but only recently have I really sought God, but I haven't been saved. Before when i was younger I always thought when i went up to the alter that i was going to give my life to Jesus, but a week later i was back to my old ways. I keep putting off giving my life to Jesus, and I feel that is a bad decision. I think i just want to be secure that my relationship with Christ won't be like my previous attempts so any suggestions of what i can do?

Just keep praying. It took me a long time to really get that assurance that I was saved. I kept praying for God to work on my heart so that I would finally understand and be able to completely believe. It felt like a hundred years before I could finally accept it. But you're not going to be perfect 100% of the time even when you are saved. We're not perfect. Thanks to Adam and Eve we're doomed to be sinners. So really, all I can say is just keep praying. Because once you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord and He saved you, then you are saved for all eternity. Isn't that just the greatest thing to imagine??

If you truly in your heart believed that Jesus died for you, and you accept Him as your Lord and Savior, you are saved, and I agree with the aboved.. If you sin, you must repent but also be truly and deeply sorry for what you did/ You cannot sin today, then tell God your oh so sorry, but then run around the next night and do the same thing, I do not believe you can do that.. God knows your heart and if your sorry and mean it, He knows, but He also knows when you act in the flesh, and not in Spirit.

I was in a situation similiar to you. I grew up in church, went through confirmation, was baptized, etc. But it really wasn't until later in my life that I really made the decision to follow Christ. I think it is a decision you consciously make and it has to be one you commit to. It isn't always easy, but once you make the committment, I think it provides you with a foundation to come back to, if that makes sense. Every decision I make comes back to my committment to Christ. That decision tempers my whole life. Before, it didn't. I did what I wanted to do. Now I do what I believe the Lord is leading me to do.

It is ineffably wonderful that you are seeking God. Know that he is with you always and is as tangible as the ground you walk upon. Concerning your salvation, it isn't through the mere acceptance of Christ as our Lord and Savior, allowing him completely into our hearts, but we must be baptized through water.

And Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38

By this, and repeated baptisms requiring water throughout the New Testament, we see how the one baptism is not through the Holy Spirit. Instead, when we are baptized we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

I used to believe otherwise, but after careful study of scripture and history itself regarding its origins, I was made to understand His teachings through Him and His Church.

We are all sinners. Every one to different degrees. God knows we are imperfect and that is why he made it possible for us to receive forgiveness for our transgressions. Just love Him, and follow His instruction and His Church, and you will learn to lead the life you seek.
