  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has anyone ever had this problem? I have PowerPoint but when I try and open it up I get a message that says it's unable to locate component and it fails to open because of some kind of file called MSVCR80 was not found. Anyone have this problem? What can I do?

Here's what you do. Do a google search on MSVCR80.DLL. The first result should be a site called dll-files. Download the ZIP file there.
Unzip it into your C:\Windows\System32 directory.
Then go Start -> Run.
Type in "regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\MSVCR80.DLL" without the quotes.
That should fix it right up.

Alternately, just stash it in the same folder as the program you're trying to run, since .dlls work that way on Windows (it's how I overrode d3dx9_43.dll by replacing it with Wine's version to stop a game from crashing - just stuck it in the same folder as the game's .exe).

And shouldn't it come as part of one of the Redistributable packages in Microsoft's downloads area? I mean AFAIK, 'MSVCR' does stand for 'Microsoft Visual C Runtime'.
