Anyone out there know a lot about computers? Here's the deal that happened with me. My laptop's hard drive crashed. I got a new hard drive. The power cable died. Got a new power cable. Now most of my games and programs (due to the hard drive crash) don't run as well. WHAT GIVES? I tried updating my graphics driver but my computer "does not recognize hardware" and does not install update. I contacted the game manufacturer (Lucasarts) who couldn't help me and Toshiba and they couldn't help me either. I GIVE UP! Also, I ended up getting a new desktop which I now really hate. It is an HP Slimline s7350n which can't run my games well (glitchy, etc.) and I'm pretty much banging my head against the wall for buying it. What can I do to upgrade it? New graphics card? What? If you need some system information, let me know and I'll PM you. Addressing 1 of my two problems would be very helpful! Thank you!

The brand of computer doesn't matter at all; Sony, HP, IBM, Toshiba... it makes no difference. It's what's inside that counts.

So, post your computer specs, and the game you want to play! Does you system meet the recommended requirments for the game? If so, is it just barely?

Ya, make sure your comp meets recommended system requirements. Also, ya - HP is not the best for desktops. Neither is Dell. Sorry Lol i know that doesnt help now, but.. hehehe uhmm... make sure you un-install all old drivers for old hardware, and update with the NEW ones. An easy way to start over would be just to re-format your computer. if you lost your HD, its not like you have anything saved ATM anyway. Also, look into a battery pack surge protector, possibly. I had near the same problem - my HD fried, my power supply fried, and it led to my motherboard frying right away. Happens in power outtages-brown outs (surge protectors dont stop brown outs) Anyway, just some food for thought. Post up your specs too if you would, so we have a better idea about what you're runnin

Be blessed †

Hmm. That processor isn't exactly a power processor, and the graphics are an integrated chipset. That's probably what is getting you down. Do you have any free slots in that machine? You'll need a free AGP or PCI-Express (not to be confused with PCI) slot to upgrade the graphics. That's the first thing I'd try.

Uh...it doesn't look like it. But it does have a lot of slots (i.e. CompactFlash I/II but it does have a slot where I used to stick my Linksys Wireless Video card. It isn't labeled, so I don't know. Is that what I'm looking for? Is there some way I can look on my system to see if I do or not?

If it's there, it should be on the back. The slot I'm talking about is too big to use with a laptop. You're looking for a metal slit, about 5 inches long and 3/4 of an inch wide.

But from what you're telling me, maybe you should have someone who knows computers well physically take a look at it.

Actually, I know now what it is and it doesn't look like I have one. So what happens now? Sit and cry wishing I could be playing my games but knowing I can't? (Just kidding by the way...I have no idea what to do)...I'm thinking about reformatting my hard drive.

I take is the Slimline is a desktop? The graphics card in it is a joke. If you want to play any newer game, you need a new graphics card. Your processor seems underpowered as well.
Yes it is and I know it has poopy hardware. I made a mistake and jumped and bought it because my other computer (which is now fixed) was on the blink and I had to write papers. So in one sense, I didn't make a very wise choice. I admit this and I confess it before God and the world. *throws dirt on head and tears clothing*

Why don't you take a photo of the back of your system and post it here? Even better, if you have the confidence, open up the case and take a photo of the inside. Then we'd know what we're dealing with here, and could help you better.

Reformatting your hard drive won't make the system fast enough to run those games, sorry. I'm afraid you'll have to get by until you've saved enough money for a decent gaming rig.

I just spent all yesterday talking to HP and basically they told me all my drivers are up to date, so they are sending me the "proper" recovery CDs, so it looks like I'll be reformatting my hard drive. I also dropped my laptop off at my local computer repair store and they are taking a look at it. At any rate, so much for the drivers!!!

Hey, about my HP, basically there is a slot on the back that is taken up by a modem card, but how do I know if it is a AGP or PCI-Express? I'm attaching pictures so you can see.

Modems won't use either. Sorry.
