  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Your love and care for your grandfather are a great witness.

One day all of our sorrow will be turned to joy! I pray Syd Barrett will experience this.
Ever notice that many great artists/musicians experience deep pain in their lives?

Moreso than others? Or is it only because they have the gifts to express it so we are aware of their pain?
I do not know the pain others experience in life. I do know that many of the greatest musicians/composers and many of the greatests artists in history have had to endure a great deal of pain in their lives. This was not only noticed by me, but by an Orthodox priest who lives here in Pittsburgh whose parish I once attended.

Could it be that artists are more sensitive to "normal" pain?
It could be. I am very sensitive to both happiness and pain. Or maybe it is just that they are more observant? I don't know, I am not a psychologist, just an artist.

There's probably a lot of factors. But I'm also thinking artists are more open-hearted. Or in touch with their heart anyway. Maybe that's where the inspiration comes from.

Well, I certainly do think inspiration comes from the ability of one to feel emotions, and often some of the best music or art comes after a period of either intesne pain or joy in ones life. How much influence do you think it has on his current concerts that Roger Waters good friend Syd Barrett recently died, especially when he is singing "Shine on You Crazy Diamond," "Wish You Were Here," etc?

I'm sure their love and respect for him had a lot to do with it too. That's why I picked the Wish You Were Here album as my first one. Open hearted love elevates art which shines through this album.

If one is motivated by anger or hatred or just analyzing the details of something, the art suffers no matter the talent.

That's probably why art can transcend political and religious dissagreements. It breaks through all that and gets to the nature of love.

I would say that love is at the basis of all good art and music.

Robin Williams said the exact same thing in the movie Dead Poet's Society: Why do men write Poety? To woo women.

I love that movie! Nice Beethoven in there, btw. I think it's my favorite of Robin Williams since Mork and Mindy.
Robin Williams was phenomenal in Good Will Hunting.

Yes, the psychology in that movie was lovingly artful, even if the language wasn't! I usually prefer the tv edited version of movies for that reason.

The language was harsh in that movie, but the message was very good.

.... On the king of rock & roll!!!

An obscure song by Long John Baldry ( If you don't know, once upon a time, he had a piano player named Reg Dwight... before Reg changed his name to Elton John)

This song is an "air piano" classic....stay with it past the story, until the actual song starts
