  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Maybe we should start a photography competition on these pages? How about monthly or quarterley? We could come up with a theme (say, "Weather" or "The Colour Red", "The Seasons" or "People in the Landscape" etc...). It's a good way to (try to) take some interesting photos, and get out and about improving our skills

As for rules, what about: 1 entry per person, posted here on this thread (or another new specific thread) before the agreed closing date.

After the closing date, a poll could be taken to decide a winner. No prizes other than the kudos of winning!

What do you think?

The "prize" is a good idea.

Okay, How about this for a title, "The Town Where I Live"

RULES:

It's quite a difficult subject, because we all look at our own town with jaded eyes. So let's try to look again at the places where we live, and try to appreciate the things, animals, buildings, locations and people we take for granted.

Shots can be in colour or black and white or infrared. (for those who don't know what infrared photos look like, check out my web site and type "infrared"). Subjects can be anything, but they MUST be from your town/city. Only one photograph per person. Pictures should be a maximum of 600 pixels wide. (that's fair for everybody, otherwise we might end with huge pictures clogging the thread up)

Personally, I don't mind computer manipulated shots (even though I don't use them); but some people do mind, so shall we decide beforehand if manipulated shots are allowed?

As for posting the shots on this forum: Is there anybody with the requisite number of posts already that we can email pictures to - for them to post them in the forum?

People could e-mail to me I suppose. I also have a some cheap image hosting space so I could post them so they show up as full pictures instead of just thumbnails.

Are we going to start a new post for every new month? Or are we just going to let this grow into one long topic?

And how do we do voting? Do we have like a deadline for submissions...then voting begins?

Even if you live in a rural area you can enter the competition. Maybe the competition should be called "The Place Where I Live"

I suppose if you live in a really isolated area (like the Australian Outback) then you should try to limit yourself to, say, within a 3 mile radius of your house.

I assume this Forum allow Polls? Once the deadline is passed, we set a poll, and everyone can vote for their favourite (please don't vote for yourself). I think the competition should be bi-monthly. So lets make the deadline for entries May 30th.

And if anyone can think of a good subject for the next competition that would be great (otherwise I'll just copy it from the same magazine - "On A Clear Day")
