Well this has certainly been an interesting thread- all 27 pages which I just read tonight. So much for dishes! Haven't been around lately- I've been busy. But, just because I happen to know, I wanted to respond to the OP. We use Mogen David Concord Grape. I don't think you can get much 'grapier' than that! ;)

Wonder if that's like MD 20/20. It was called Mad Dog lovingly by alkies. :) Don't even know if they make it anymore. It was just grape juice and everclear.

Yep, they still make it as well as...is it Wild Rose? I only know 'cause I'm particularly fond of sweet sweet wines and it's on the shelf under the Mogen David, Manichewitz (sp?) and Cincinnati's winery's Meier Concord Grape.

(of course, has anyone tried eiswine? Oh my goodness. it's sooooo good.)

I was thinking of this whole fruit of the vine thing, and how some are defending grape juice as fruit of the vine just because it is from the vine. You are using the phrase fruit of the vine in a way it was not intended

If someone made you responsible for bringing beef to a cookout for the President of the US, and you bought hamburger, would you be able to use the excuse, "Well, I know you meant for me to being steak, but you said to bring beef, and hamburger is made of beef, so I brought hamburger."

I wish my example were better. I have the logic in my brain, I just can't think of a good way to put it on paper.

I personally try avoiding analogies as a foundation for a belief, since analogies can be very tricky. Very tricky. Andlogies when used by themselves can lead in various directions.
(Only Christ was faultless in appying analogies. They are complicated).

I usually apply analogies after I establish the foundation from the Scriptures.

The point for my disagreement was that I did not know that we will drink wine in Heaven.

Then I did a study and saw that God Himself will give us wine (specifically Isa. 25, I believe).

This verse below is very rich in content and in one sentence covers the entire Bible in a systematic way.

MT 26:27 Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom."

Since I did not know that we would drink wine in Heaven, the context allowed for presuming that a fruit of a vine might as well be grape.

Now that I know we will drink wine in Heaven, the loophole is closed.

Wine in OT as an offering to God - Wine at the Passover - Wine at the Lord's Supper - Wine at Paul's Communion - Wine in Heaven.

Thanks, :)
Ed

cool, Ed, no disrespect meant to anyone. I guess to me it is pretty clear cut that it is wine and that we should use wine, but I couldn't care less if it's in a cup, a plastic thingy, or is cut with water. We try to read too much into the Bible IMO. I am just not smart enough to analyze it too much.

You might be correct. Sometimes we might indeed look unnecessarily too close into the Bible. Yet if there are disagreements concerning it, I really see no other way.

Thanks, :)
