I won't mention the other party's name--but MONTHS ago--way before Tall's 'coming out', I voiced this concern about Tall spending so much time on a web forum.

And why should it have been any 'concern' of yours? Was Tall your pastor? What business was it of yours how he chose to spend his free time?

What is it about Trads that they insist on micro-managing a minister's time (ALL pastors, not just thier own) just because they pay tithe and feel they have some sort of ownership and control over them? As if the pastors were somehow answerable to them instead of the conference?

I have seen this 'I am your boss' mentality play out in several Trad churches and board meetings. I weep for the poor pastors who are assigned these districts. No wonder so many of them drop out of the ministry, sick and tired of the power games people try to play with them.

You are trying to impose the characteristics of a congregational system on the employees of a denomination which is not based on such a system.

Frankly, your pastor would be foolish to claim he is anything but busy to someone like you. You seem like the type of parishoner who would demand a full account of his activities monthly from the conference for scrutiny, not to mention be at the front of the lynch-mob the moment he began to question any doctrine.

I'm sure that is grief he does not need, so I suspect he just tells you what you want to hear so he does not have to deal with yet another 'headache' parishoner.

I know quite a few pastors, and they all claim to have at least one or two in thier churches.

OOrrrrr--people could see that I had addressed him and just kept their noses out of the convo for once.
You mean you can question someone's time management skills on a public discussion forum and expect no comment on the matter. If you wanted this private you should have sent a PM to Tall not that you have a right to an answer....

Hi Tall—aside from you debating, I often wondered how it was that you had so much time to spend on internet forums. Was you church congregation very small? Like under 30? I know our pastor said he doesn’t have time to waste on forums because his flock needs attending to. So how do you do it? Just curious.

For comparison, I posted three members who joined about the same time—look at that number of posts between the three. I think Daryl might be retired, I’m not sure. But I work at my job and as you can see the huge difference between the number of your posts and those of Daryl’s and mine.

Isn’t being a pastor a full time job too? Where did you get the time to do so much posting?

Now how on earth would you know that Sophie? Mind reading again are we? I won't mention the other party's name--but MONTHS ago--way before Tall's 'coming out', I voiced this concern about Tall spending so much time on a web forum. Then when this thread was started--I found it a good opportunity to ask him about it.

But I must say that the reaction to my question has been --well--how should I put it--interesting? I keep asking myself why would such a harmless question draw such fire from this faction?

I think it's the rock in the dog pile theory.
Honor, if you had been a pastor for a decade in the SDA church and then began exploring questions of doctrine that had been nagging at you for years, where would you turn to find answers? If you turn to your fellow pastoral staff you'd likely find yourself getting railroaded out of your job just for asking. Would you turn to family? How about church members? Yeah, that would be good! How about the conference president, or the GC president? Seriously...

Since you believe SDAism to be the truth, the WHOLE truth, and NOTHING but the truth, what are you afraid of? Are you not willing to put your 'truths' on the table to be examined and scrutinized? What's to fear if they are the 'truth'?

BTW, the next 'box' is MUCH bigger than just SDAism! And God 'don't' fit in ANY of our boxes! Especially SDAism!

In Christ alone...
