I think we've done this before, but I thought it would be good to post any scriptures we have found to be particularly helpful during the painful times (physically, mentally or emotionally). As with all scriptures they need to be taken in context, of course, and applied to our lives as the Holy Spirit directs.

This helped me during a recent difficulty:

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
Isaiah 43 v 2 (NIV)

I can do one now, the one I read that had such an effect on me day before yesterday. I was so down, lonely, depressed, and really not wanting to go on with this whole life thing. Not suicidal, just not "knowing" if I could keep going but knew I didn't have a choice. But I did choose to turn to Jesus, thank you Lord. Here is the verse I saw, in that same time span:

Mat 5:3
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

My understanding given to me was that "poor in spirit" is someone (like me) being so broken that I see my great, need for God, and cry out to Him. I did, and once again, He is there, and I see He never left me.
